Obituary of Mary H. Butler
Mary was born in Massachusetts, the only child of Thomas and Mary. Thomas landed a job in New York City after the Great Depression and so the family moved and settled in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx. She attended Our Lady of Angels Elementary School and Cathedral High School. Mary would recall and often vibrantly talk about enjoying her childhood summers with her Aunt Ella, Uncle Bill and cousins Dan and Bill on a farm in New England. After high school, she worked as an executive secretary at Hallmark and Macy's. She met the love of her life Robert in 1948 at a St. Vincent Ferrer dance in Manhattan. They married in 1950 and had three daughters Maureen, Joanne and Marilyn. Mary and Bob moved to Whitestone in 1957 with their three daughters. Mary chose to stay at home and raise her three daughters until she worked with her daughter Marilyn from 1984 to 2018 and with whom she lived after being widowed in 2006. Mary delighted in and dearly loved her three daughters and five grandchildren Mary Kulhanek (nee Wachowicz), Rev. John Wachowicz, Anne Wachowicz, Stephen Murphy and Anne Murphy. She loved and cherished her sons-in-law Paul Murphy and Edward Wachowicz and grand son-in-law Stephen Kulhanek. Nephews Larry and Tim and nieces Susan and Kathy were a delight to her. Her favorite past times were being with her family, going to the Manhasset Public Library for their events, vacationing in New England, and chatting with Marilyn's patients. She was an avid reader and walker, devoted to the Blessed Mother and loved anything to do with Broadway and movies. Mary will dearly be missed, resting in peace, being reunited with her beloved Robert.
