Obituary of Anne Marie Monaco

Please share a memory of Anne Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anne Marie Monaco passed away on June 7, 2018, after a four-year battle with Pancreatic Cancer which she gracefully and courageously fought up until the very end.

Anne Marie was born on December 4th, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to Gaspar and Josephine Fasullo where her extended family including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all lived together which provided Anne Marie with fond and loving memories of her Italian-American upbringing and early years growing up in old-time in Brooklyn.

As a die-hard Brooklyn Dodgers fan who sat on her front stoop to greet the players as they came home from a game, Anne Marie knew every player's name, number, and stats and could rattle them off at any time. After attending Saint Angela Hall High School in Brooklyn, NY and Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, NY, Anne Marie embarked on what would be a 50+ year career in education, first serving as an elementary school classroom teacher and eventually retiring as a reading and basic education professor, instructing students at both Hofstra University and Nassau Community College, where she made many treasured friends with whom she remained close even after her retirement. Anne Marie also was proud to have received two Master’s Degrees in the fields of Writing and Education.

In 1960 Anne Marie married Roy E. Monaco, and after moving from Brooklyn to Queens as a newly married couple they settled in Long Island, first in Mineola and then in East Williston where they raised their three children Christina, Francis (Frank) and Catherine (Kate). Following Roy's death in 2006 Anne Marie moved to Garden City, NY where she thrived in her Hilton Hall apartment community, making new friends and continuing to serve as an educator.

Anne Marie was someone who enjoyed a variety of interests that she participated in on a frequent basis, tapping into her love for the arts and self-expression. She participated as a cast member in a variety of theatrical productions held at the Herricks Community Theater, and also took ballroom dancing lessons, photography classes, and creative writing workshops where she spent two weeks each summer on Martha's Vineyard which became one of her favorite places to visit. For over 45 years Anne Marie, Roy and their family enjoyed many summers at North Hills Country Club, a place that they considered a home away from home given the countless friends they made throughout the years and the delicious meals shared with one another.

Anne Marie is survived by her sister, Liboria and her sister-in-law Marilyn, along with her and Roy's three children; Christina Monaco, Francis (Frank) Monaco, and Catherine (Kate) Monaco-Berman, daughter-in-law Jean Monaco, son-in-law Fred Berman, and five grandchildren Anna, Francesca, Audrey, Benjamin, and Isabella.

Anne Marie will be missed by many and wanted everyone to know how much they meant to her during her years on this earth.
