Obituary of Kathleen McCormack

Kathleen McCormack, 60, died July 14th 2018 at her home in Astoria Queens. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 19th at St. Peter’s of Alcantara, on Port Washington Boulevard, in Port Washington at 10:30AM. Kathie was born in Flushing, Queens on August 30th 1957 to Dolores and Thomas McCormack. She attended St. John’s University and graduated with her B.S. in 1982 followed by a law degree in 1986. She had a successful career as an attorney at Cullen and Dykman LLP, where she was a Partner specializing in Representing and Advising Not-For-Profit Corporations as well as preparing trusts and estates for her many clients. Her passion for helping others led her to serve on the Board of the Brooklyn Volunteer Lawyers Project, a New York based Not-For-Profit Corporation, which provides free legal services to those in need. Outside of the professional world Kathie was incredibly involved with her community and the church, serving as a member of the Planned Gifts Committee for the Archdiocese of New York, a board member of the Catholic Foundation for Brooklyn and Queens, Brooklyn Diocese of New York, treasurer and later president of her 963 unit cooperative board, for the past twenty-seven years, board member of Providence House, a New York based Not-For-Profit Corporation, assisting women and children with supportive housing. Kathie was predeceased by her long time partner, Bob Cruz who passed away last year. She is survived by her two brothers Tommy (Debbie) and Sean (Liz), and her sister Rosemary (Michael), as well as five nephews Ryan, Kevin, Michael, Tommy & Logan, two nieces, Megan, Kristin and countless friends, including two amazing neighbors. In lieu of flowers, the McCormack family requests that donations in Kathie’s honor be made to the Sisters of Life Annunciation or to the Providence House.
