Obituary of Robert A. Fleming, M.D.

Robert (Robbie) A. Fleming, MD, passed away on June 15, 2016 at the age of 61. Born in 1955 in Manhattan, NY, Robert attended Xavier High School and Fordham University before completing medical school at St. George’s University in Grenada.
He was a police surgeon for the New York City Police Department for nearly 20 years while practicing pulmonary medicine as the associate program director and director of the ventilator management unit at New York Hospital Queens in Flushing, NY and Silvercrest Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Briarwood, NY. He went on to serve in the same role at Coney Island Hospital before becoming interim chairman of medicine. He was a mentor to many young physicians, respected by colleagues, and adored by his patients.
Robert was beloved by his family. He and his late wife Janet settled in Manhasset in 1988 with daughters Meghan (02) and Allison (05). He enjoyed traveling with his family, playing golf and supporting charities that were meaningful to him. He was loved by all who knew him.
Robert is survived by his daughters, mother Marion, sister Colleen, and son-in-laws J. Patrick Bennett (03) and James J. Bavaro.
A wake will be held at Fairchild & Sons Funeral Chapel at 1570 Northern Blvd, Manhasset, NY on Friday, June 17 from 3 pm – 5 pm, and 7 pm – 9 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Manhasset, NY on Monday, June 20 at 10 am.
