Obituary of Dominick DiFebo

Please share a memory of Dominick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dominick DiFebo, born in Nescopeck, PA, on August, 23, 1933, passed away on May 16, 2015. He enjoyed the last weeks of his colorful life laughing, sitting in the glorious sun, enjoying time with his family and being with his life partner and sweetheart Florence Nardone. He is survived by his four daughters, Valerie, Stephanie, Elizabeth and Vanessa; and his three grandchildren, Alessandra, Sarah and Bryan. Dominick was raised in the Bronx and attended Christopher Columbus High School. While competing in the Golden Gloves, Dominick was known as "The Windmill." He also served his country during the Korean conflict in the United States Navy as a radio man on the destroyer the U.S.S. Charles J. Badger. Dominick had a strong work ethic and an eclectic business career. His first job as a teenager was at one of his favorite places, The Bronx Zoo. He was a licensed hairdresser and a UPS man prior to building his own businesses. He joined the Bricklayers union and had entrepreneurial success founding a construction and waterproofing company. In the confection industry he launched The Yummy Shop, which was a Bronx landmark. He retired from the Bay Club where he managed the Maintenance crew. Dominick was famous for doing things "his way". He was a tough guy with a big heart and always had a scheme up his sleeve. He had a wicked combination of common sense and street smarts. He loved to sing and listen to Sinatra music...loud. Dominick loved his vacations to California, Arizona, Aruba, New Hope, PA and Italy. His generosity was endless and he always helped people he thought needed it most. Dominick taught his daughters to be independent, strong willed and strong minded. But he also reminded them often that life is short and taking the time to enjoy the weather and their family was more important than anything in the world. One of his favorite pastimes was watching the boys play ball in the park. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who he cherished. At the end he fought hard to extend his time here so that he could watch them grow up. He was never short on words expressing his pride in his family. With heavy hearts and deep appreciation for the time we shared with this force of life, we have made the following arrangements: A one day wake will be held on Tuesday, 5/19 at Fairchild & Sons Funeral Home in Manhasset, N.Y. from 3:00 - 5:00 and 7:00 - 9:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:45am Wednesday, 5/20, at St. Anastasia's R.C. Church, Douglaston, N.Y. The family has established a scholarship in his name at Cardinal Spellman High School specifically to benefit young women who need financial support for secondary education. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cardinal Spellman High School, with a memo notation indicating: “The Dominick DiFebo Memorial Scholarship Fund.”
