Obituary of Edward J. Gaus

Edward J. Gaus Jr, age 86, of Manhasset NY, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 26th, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Agnes of 55+ years, 5 children, 8 grandchildren and sister Joan McKeown. Ed graduated from Manhattan College as an Electrical Engineer and later went on to get 2 Masters Degrees at night in Electrical Engineering from NYU and Business Administration from St. John’s College. Ed was an honest, loyal and hardworking family man with a great sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. He enjoyed playing the piano at parties, cooking for his family and videotaping family events. He was always there for his family or those who needed him. He was a devout Catholic who served as a Lector at St. Mary’s RC Church for 25 years. He was an Air Force veteran who served on active duty during the Korean War developing drones for target purposes. Ed spent 42 years working for Sperry in Lake Success, NY as a Professional Engineer, before retiring and dabbling in real estate. While at Sperry he worked on Polaris/Poseidon/Trident Weapons Systems on the Fleet Ballistic Missile Weapons Systems program. He was very proud of being a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 304 in Manhasset. Wake will be held Tuesday, December 29th from 3pm to 9pm at Fairchild Sons in Manhasset. A 10am Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 30th at St. Mary’s RC Church in Manhasset followed by a military honors interment at Calverton National Cemetery at 12 noon.
