I drove from the city, wanted to make the 3-5 wake, I ended up getting lost! Hard to believe, growing up in Port but I missed the Grand Central turn off from the Cross Island! I guess I thought I was on the Grand Central already! Just thinking about Carl and the tremendous loss you are experiencing. I hope it comforts the family to hear from all these old buddies, probably most of whom you have never even heard of, offering the same thoughts and feelings about Carl. Just know that he was tremendously loved and admired. One thing that I think about is that I don't think I ever heard Carl utter an unkind word or even have anything other than a smile on his face. I have experienced loss, and what I can offer at a sad time like this is that although it really never goes away it does get easier with the passing of time.

The loss of Carl will be felt by many people, those who knew him and those he served as an outstanding public servant for his entire life. A good man that always wanted to do the right thing, but most importantly he was a good friend and fireman. From the early days at Jamaica Hospital to today at Miller Place FD I knew and worked with Carl. He was a good Chief and we are all better having known him. What else can you say for someone's life. I am honored to have known him and his wife ! God bless him and his family. Richard Mullane

I was Carl's 5th and 6th grade teacher. at Manorhaven School. in Port Washington. Carl was a bright, smiling student with many friends. He appeared the same way when I saw him at the Port Washington Reunion last year. He was a pleasure to know and have in my class. May he rest in peace.
