WESTAD, Per 94, of Port Washington, NY on March 11, 2016. Born in 1921 in Kristiania (now Oslo) Norway, emigrated to NY as a child, moved to Bayside and later, Little Neck. Graduated from Wharton School of Business 1943 (Delta Kappa Epsilon). Served in the Army 1942-1947 doing tours in the U.S., then Japan during reconstruction. Remained in the Army Reserves for 34 yrs, retired in 1981 as Colonel. After active service joined The Borregaard Co. Inc. (pulp & paper mfg), the American div. of one of Norway’s largest companies, ultimately becoming its president. Served as President of Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce in the 1960’s and in 1968 dined as a guest in the White House. Held office of President of the Yale Club in NYC and served in different capacities for many other organizations. Pre-deceased by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie, and brother, Rolf. Leaves behind five children; Christopher, Susan, Jeffrey (Linda), Nancy (James Sr., d.), Constance; six grandchildren; Kimberly (Jeff), Kristin, Jennifer, James, Allison, David; three great-grandchildren Siera, Nicholas, Noah. He was most proud of his service to our country and his long association with the United States Army. A good man who left a great imprint on all who knew him. Graveside services will be held at Nassau Knolls Cemetery on Saturday April 2, 2016 at 11:00AM
