When I met Father Frank, I was working on a news story about churches "unique" to the Nashville area. Many of the interviews were by phone, but Father Frank invited me to come on over to the church and talk, so I did. He had returned from a trip that very day and offered me one of the bags of Southwest peanuts he got on the flight. Within minutes, we were talking like longtime friends. We had a nice interview and then talked about all sorts of things. He invited me back to chat several times, and I took him up on it.
One of the things he told me about was teaching the young people's Sunday School class. He used stories from the newspaper and discussing them from a faith perspective, and the young people connected. A few years later, I moved to a new neighborhood and began attending a new church. I was asked to teach a young people's class and I decided to give Father Frank's idea a try. It worked.
That job wasn't in the most pleasant workplace and didn't last long, but the time I enjoyed with Father Frank made it worthwhile. He had an impact on me.
While it has been several years since I saw or spoke with Father Frank, I have often remembered his kindness and the time I spent with him.
My condolences to his family and friends.
