I will always remember you Charlie. You were there for so many people. I remember your first studio by the Roslyn click tower. I remember Barry Glanz who started the restaurant Little Easter in Sea Cliff ( the english translation of you name). I thought does times would not go by so fast. I love you and wish you well and best to your family including Lydia who I went to high school with. Best, Frances Fattizzi Iasso

I’m deeply saddened to have learned this week of Charlie’s passing. I studied painting with this prince of a man for 7 years- my last year in 2006.
As I write these thoughts, I’m sitting in my living room across from my “Lady in a Red Hat”, and always feel Charlie’s hand on my shoulder, or on my canvas...always guiding, always caring.
Now more than ever.
Blessings to Lydia, the family and the Studio family.

The NY Times obit for Charlie came up again on my screen and I added another message kindly requesting that a member of the Pasqualina family contact me. Charlie and I so near and so far: we spend four years together at St John's Prep in Brooklyn but didn't interact after hours (NOW I know why) and he lived on Auburndale Lane and I on 166th Street, perhaps a fifteen minute stroll.

I was terribly saddened to hear of the passing of Charlie .
He was a wonderful man who has left his imprint on me . From the days when I studied oil painting with him, he was my mentor but more than that, a friend. We could discuss many varied topics - art , religion , politics (yes, we argued about that) to name a few.
Yes, a true friend who , even when we differed, had a true respect and love for me. While he was the true renaissance man, I could only approach his accomplishments.
And yes, more than a few times, we enjoyed eating oysters on a half shell and smokimg cigars.
Even when my hobbies were directed to other interests, if I visited him, it was like I saw him yesterday.
Yes, I will miss him and I pray for him. I know he is in heaven. I wonder to whom he will tell his first "duct tape" joke. I know I tell it all the time and always think of him.
He has touched my life .

I'm so very, very sorry. What can written words accomplish? Sooth, calm, express condolences and try in a few thoughtful lines to give you, the Pasqualina family, comfort. I wish that I could paint a poem in tribute on this digital canvas that would be half as beautiful as Mr. Pasqualina painted portraits. Sympathy through empathy will have to do. And may Charlie's vast aesthetic from earth to heaven soar!
I'm so happy that I had the honor to meet him recently.
I'm sure that we will be reunited once again in a place of exquisite beauty... an artist's brush could appreciate.
With warm regards,
Leo

Charlie had a way of making everyone seem special. His kindness has always stayed with me some 40+ years later. The world would be a better place, if there were more people like him.
With fondest memories

Charlie always joked that he would like to be taller. He might not have been tall, but he was truly larger than life. He had a gigantic heart, immense wisdom, boundless talent, and an endless supply of funny stories. Charlie, you may not have been tall, but you were and always will be a GIANT. I and countless others will always look up to you. What I have learned from you, not just about art, but about life, itself, can fill volumes. I am so blessed to have known you.

I was so fortunate to meet Charlie when I decided to study oil painting. He was very generous, kind, and encouraging, all so important to beginning painters. Of course the Roslyn School was more than a place to learn painting; yes Charlie was an oil painting teacher, but he also was a philosopher, historian, theologian, political pundit, architect, carpenter, plumber, ailurophile; even a counselor and therapist. He gave me a very valuable gift, the joy of painting and confidence to engage in self expression. His classes were one part art instruction, one part topical discussions, and 100% fun. He's one of a kind and I will miss him greatly.

Knowing Charles Pasqualina was a privilege. Being taught by him was a gift. Charlie believed artists paint to leave their mark. Well, he has left quite a large mark and will never be forgotten. He changed so many lives, certainly mine. Without his training, I would not be painting. When I was insecure, he reassured me, when I was lost, he showed me the way, when I was afraid he comforted me, when I was sad, he made me laugh. His gift for helping everyone who came through his door was infinite.
I will miss him, his corny jokes, his great laugh and the love he shared with all of his students for the rest of my life.

It is hard to fully describe Charlie. He was truly larger than life and amazing. He was always busy with one project or another, building things around the school. My favorite was his black walnut mechanical easel. Genius actually. In the school he created a positive atmosphere in class where no matter how badly you felt about your work,he could still make you feel good about it. He was fiercely proud of his family and their accomplishments. A lot of love.
I will greatly miss his "just one more thing" before I could finish a painting that would then take 2 more days. But he was always right.
I love you ,Charlie. With all my love and condolences to all his family. This is a loss that we all share with you. Charlie touched so many lives in such a big way. I could not do what I do without his great teaching.
Love, Jodi

To the Pasqualina family - both his blood relatives and all his "family" at his studio. I am so sorry to hear this news. Charlie was such a legend, a unique personality, a great artist and a wonderful friend to all who were lucky enough to call him friend. This is a sad day. So sad for me because he was such a big part of my childhood. I remember all the good times with him and at the Roslyn School of Painting. I learned how to draw from Charlie. He taught my mother and aunt and brother how to paint also. He was really a part of our family and was like a father to me when my father died. Six months after my father died I had a ballet performance that I was in and Charlie showed up with a big bouquet of red roses for me as if I was the lead ballerina. It was so sweet. I never forgot it. Memories like that last forever. Crying now.
