Obituary of Chong Ku Rhee
Please share a memory of Chong to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rev. Dr. Chong-Ku Rhee passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, September 17th.
He was born in 1937 and lived the first thirty years of his life in South Korea. After graduating from Seoul National University, he worked in Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency where he met his future wife, Soonshin Roh. They traveled together globally and raised two daughters and two sons: Sumi, Jeong-Ah, Daesung, and Hosung. After moving to the U.S. in 1981, fate intervened, and he embraced God.
His passion for learning and preaching the true meaning of God’s words resulted in his receiving of Doctor of Divinity and Doctor of Religious Education degrees. He loved to read the Books of Psalm and Job as one of his favorite Bible Chapter is Psalm 23: “…Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” His life was indeed one devoted to God, his family, and friends. As one of his friend stated, “His lasting memory will be the enduring impact he had on all those with whom he interacted.”
The wake will be held at Fairchild Sons Funeral Chapel in Manhasset on Tuesday, September 20 for family only. The funeral service will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Memorial Sloan Kettering for their dedication and attentive treatment over the years.
