Obituary of Joyce Wetherby DeWitt

Joyce Wetherby DeWitt, formerly of Manhasset, NY and Aberdeen, WA, passed away on Sunday October 16, 2016. She was born an only child in 1929 to Frances Karshner Wetherby and Harold Wetherby. She attended the University of Washington in Seattle, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. There, she earned an Associate’s degree. Later, she earned her BA from Adelphi University. She was an active member of the Riding Chapter of the DAR. Joyce was an avid golfer for much of her life. She was a member at North Hempstead Country Club for many years. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Manhasset for the 50 years that she lived in town. There, she taught Sunday school and also played piano for the childrens’ chapel services. She enjoyed hosting social events of all kinds with her husband Don. They enjoyed hosting the Manhasset Rotary Christmas party in their home for many years. Most of all she loved time with her friends and family. Joyce had an eye for style and opened a boutique in Manhasset for a few years. It was called “Fashions by Joyce”.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, W. Donald DeWitt. She is survived by her daughter, Diane DeWitt Frisch, and son-in-law Mark Frisch, and two grandchildren, Michael and Megan Frisch. She will be buried on Friday, October 21 in the Nassau Knolls Cemetery, next to Don. There will be a family service at the cemetery at 11am.
