Eulogy for my #1 Sonshine- 1/14/17 Thank you to all of our beautiful family & friends for your outpouring of love & support in remembering our beloved son, Ricky Carbia, my #1 Sonshine. We could not get through this extremely painful time without you each and everyone of you, and we are extremely grateful & humbled for your love.
We are all gathered to celebrate the life of our 33 year old precious son, Ricky, taken to soon from this earth. I had Ricky at 20 years old and we grew up together. Ricky was the eldest of my three sons -and I use to tell each one of them that they were my favorite SON!!
To know Ricky is to love him. He had a great big smile and his arms were always wide open to welcome & hug everyone that he knew. You might have noticed from some of his pictures that his arms were always wide open, like Jesus, saying, "come to me, I love you and I am here for you." He loved his family & friends unconditionally. Ricky's tender heart reminds me so much of my father, Ronald Klintworth, who is a gentle & supportive soul. Ricky celebrated his first communion and confirmation here at St. Mary's and has been a part of the fabric of our loving Manhasset community. You could see Ricky walking around town with his head phones on, singing to his music. I love my son so very much and have so much pride & joy in my heart because of him.
Ricky transcended age, race and everyone that he ever met and he broke barriers his entire life. He was passionate about all types of music, sports, (the NY Giants), in case you didn't notice that earlier, and he was blessed with a gift for writing. He could speak with any one about any topic of interest. He was always smiling and singing when we were together. In addition to his other gifts, he was truly one of the funniest guys with the wittiest sense of humor as witnessed by all that know and love him. I always told him that he should be writing comedy for television shows, however he preferred to save his gifts for family & friends. He was so very humble.
Ricky is blessed with two brothers, Mark & Christian & two sisters Megan & Taylor, whom he loves more than anything. He was beaming with pride when Megan & Mark went off to college. He helped me care for his brother, Christian when he was sick last year, bringing him food and comforting him all hours of the night. He adored his youngest sister Taylor, and they would laugh all of the time. He had a special bond with each of his siblings. they shared sports, music, laughter & love. Cousin Joe Joe and Rick were inseparable as they grew up together. Ricky was the best man at Joe's wedding and honored him with a speech full of pride.
It takes a village and Ricky has been blessed with three men in his life. His Dad, whom he is also named after and adores. They have a love and a bond that will never be broken. His dad decorated his baby nursery blue with Giant & Yankee posters before we even knew if we were having a boy or a girl. He taught Ricky the love of sports, especially the NY GIANTS, and he always hosted Ricky and his friends at his home for the Giant games.
Nick Andriotis was Ricky's step dad and raised this boy from age five on. He loved Rickster and created a warm home with laughter, love, food & family. Nick tried to turn Ricky into a Dallas fan, however that didn't work. Ricky loves Nick tremendously. He taught Ricky how to be Greek. : ) Ricky is now buried next to a Nikitas, whom will keep him safe.
Scott or Scooter as Ricky loved to call him, has been part of Ricky's
Life for many years now & Scott took care of Ricky, he loved to food shop for him and drive him around. Scott has helped me - help Ricky strive to have the best life possible. He found him with me this past Monday and held me up, when I could no longer stand on my own.
All of you have fostered so much love & hope. We know that Ricky felt so much love in that room last night and our hearts are full because of you.
On one of our last family trips together, this past August was to Riviera Maya, where we all had a blast dancing and laughing at Coco Bongo, this crazy nightclub. That was a funny & precious time that we hold dear. Ricky just celebrated Thanksgiving with our family. We enjoyed Easters & celebrations in Florida. We had the best Christmas Day sharing the love of God & each other. On one of our family trips to Atlantis in the Bahamas, I mistakenly ordered a sandwich that I didn't like and Ricky took my sandwich and pushed his sandwich over to me and said, enjoy, I love you, "we are the two closest people that we have."
We had the best week together last week, Ricky's Birthday week. I drove him to work on Wednesday and he sang, "Peter Pan," by Kelsea Ballerini with me and we laughed. We had a beautiful & fun dinner together on Thursday evening with his brothers and we laughed and we hugged goodbye for one last time. The last words my son & I spoke to each other on that evening were, I love you & then RICKY looked at me and said, I've got you Mom!
My three favorite sayings are:
Sleep is your friend,
Fries Need Salt
and your Mother Loves You.
Ricky, I hope you felt in your soul my sweet boy how important and loved you are to me and every single person in the room last night & today. Your Original OG's will always have your back. What an incredible display of love.
Ricky, you are the sunshine on our faces, the wind in our hair, the smile on our faces, the music that we hear, the dances that we dance and the dreams that we hold dear. You are the air that I breathe and the blood in my veins.
God plus one is always a majority!
If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31
Soar high, our sweet Prince, we love you and will keep your spirit alive always. Enjoy "free styling" in heaven. Always remember Ricky we LOVE YOU & we know that you love us. "I'll like you forever, I'll love you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be."
Bless you "SON"!!!!!
Love you, Ma Dukes

Rick, I can't believe you're gone... You got me into Football, and more so the Giants! I will dedicate every Giants game that I see or attend to you. You will be missed brother; I now wish we all got together for the 'Bomb Squad' reunion we were trying to set up in November. Though it was not to be, your memory will live on through all the people you have touched,
You will be missed brother.
To the Carbia Family:
My deepest condolences and sympathies for your loss. It is a loss for us all. God Bless.
Shane.
