Obituary of Helen D. Miserendino

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The eldest of four siblings, Helen was born in Everett Massachusetts to Helen (Hastings) and Arthur F. Dooley. She attended schools in Chicago, San Francisco, New Jersey and Queens. She pursued her dream of going to New York City and held various jobs and enjoyed many adventures while she lived in the Tudor City section of Manhattan. She met her future husband, Joseph Miserendino there and they were married in the Lady Chapel of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in 1950. Helen and Joseph settled in Manhasset in 1955 with the first two of their four daughters. Helen was known for her superb, healthy (before it was trendy) cooking and her dedication to her family, faith, community and country. Included in the many ways she served were Girl Scout leader, supporting St. Mary’s schools and parish, Manhasset High School, the American Legion Auxiliary, The Grail as well as being involved in the political process. She and Joseph enjoyed the roving, fun-loving parties held in the neighborhood. Helen established a business conducting estate/tag sales, Bon Marchė with Shirley Knowles. After Joseph died, she moved to Southbridge, MA and opened Vintage And… an antiques and curios shop, was a supporter of the arts and studied writing. Returning to Manhasset, she honored many requests-- into her nineties-- to conduct estate sales with her special love of beautiful items, business acumen and respect and genuine caring for people. She is preceded in death by her first-born child, Joseph Jr., husband Joseph, brothers Arthur and Richard Dooley and many family and friends. She is survived by her sister Joan D. Rampolla of East Meadow NY and sister-in-law Marion H. Dooley, Gurnee, IL. She also leaves to celebrate her life her daughters and their families Lisa Miserendino and Michael Lussen, Warren VT, Gina Miserendino and Michael Lecuyer, Viola, DE, Delia and Carlos Serrano, Baldwin, NY and Vincente and Howard Batsford, Baldwin, NY. Her seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren in Vermont, New York and Florida are among Nanette’s most ardent admirers. Lois Campbell-Cook, Wales MA, a friend since high school, also survives her. Myriad nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors, all of whom she loved, will miss her strong spirit, love of song and wisdom. Friends may visit Fairchild & Son Funeral Home 1570 Northern Blvd Manhasset Sunday, March 12, 2017 - 2:00 p.m.– 4:00p.m. and 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. . A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, March 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 1300 Northern Blvd Manhasset. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to your favorite charity in her name.
