Obituary of Irene Silka
Irene Silka grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, living is a cold flat apartment, along the East River, as an only child. Times were tough for her and her parents as they did not have much. Family and faith was the glue that bound them together and would define the type of person Irene would become.
Family came first for Irene. She would place everyone’s needs above her own making sure you had enough to eat, your lunch was packed and your clothes were ready for the next day. She built her home, wherever it was, by just focusing on family. Irene could never do too much for you while never expecting anything in return. Her love and devotion was unconditional.
Irene was blessed with a wonderful husband, loving children and granddaughters who she adored. Her definition of family included neighbors, dear friends, her “people” and even pets. Bailey, our dog, was loved by Irene as much as we were. She definitely got better treats than we did!
Irene lived her life in the spirit of Christ. As she grew older, family became even more important to her. She never wanted to impose and was more concerned with her children and grandchildren’s well-being and living their lives to the fullest. A typical conversation with Irene began with “ I’m ok, how are you honey?”
Irene was in her glory sitting at the head of the table for a family meal. Happy and proud to see everyone together, her life’s goal realized. Now she is joining her family in heaven, reunited with those she loved and Christ. We are all comforted knowing she will continue “taking care of us” in her own way. Thank you for your love and devotion to our family. We will love you forever.
Beloved wife of the late Raymond. Loving mother of Valerie(Peter)Lynch and Raymond(Judy). Cherished grandmother of Lauren, Kaitlyn, Megan and Jennifer.
