Happy Birthday Wendy,
Sorry for the delay in wishing you what would have been your 64th birthday. I kept saying to myself visit this page and remember your birthday.
Another year has passed with much interest and changes that you wouldn't believe. You'd live the changes that are taking place in medical science.
Rest in Peace friend.

Happy birthday Wendy
This past year has been a continuation of the unusual.
I purchased a 2006 BMW convertible this past Spring. I remember how much you really loved yours, though I think it was a Saab, though sometimes I wonder if it was an Audi. Anyway, I named the car Winde Spirit in your honor and remembrance.
Just a reminder that you are missed.

Yesterday was your birthday Wendy. I thought about the fun we had together and the things we would be discussing while eating birthday cake. In memory...

Hi Wendy,
Happy Birthday!! I didn't and will never forget.
Wendy was a dear friend, and I am shocked to know of this unfortunate ending for my dear friend.
Even though I lived half a world away, I could always count on hearing from Wendy when I wrote.
I was so looking forward to catching up with her to hear her latest adventures and interesting happenings
I returned in June and reached out to contact Wendy and never heard back. I was hoping that she had gotten a promotion or took an assignment overseas.
Wendy never had a bad intention in her heart. She cared for others, and always delivered the best.
I've lost a really good friend, one who I really wanted to see upon my return to the US.
Happy Birthday kiddo!!!

I did not know Wendy very well, we lost touch many years ago. Through social media we were able to reach out to one another and speak on the phone for many hours about the things we cherished the most; family, friends and the sciences. I am very thankful for the opportunity to have spoken with her and to have gotten to know her just a little better, but as everyone else that know Wendy as a upbeat, sincere, humorous an wonderful person, am saddened by the fact that I will not have the opportunity to get to know her better.

I have some fond memories of my interactions with Wendy while we were coworkers at Talecris Biotherapeutics in RTP, NC. I knew Wendy as a dedicated and devoted Pathogen Safety scientist. She took great pride in her work, and she had a formidable work ethic. I tended to stay late most evenings, and I would often find Wendy online and/or in her office well beyond 6pm. Occasionally, I’d joke that she should “turn out the lights and lock up the building” before she left for the night or the weekend. She would invariably grumble about her workload, but it was easy to see how much she loved both her profession and her career.
I recall working through the noon hour one random weekday years ago. I rushed out to a nearby sandwich shop after 2pm for a very late lunch, and I expected to be the only patron in the shop. Instead, I found Wendy sitting alone at a table as I walked in. Upon chatting, I learned that she had also chosen to work right through the lunch hour, enduring an empty stomach, so that she could maintain her momentum on some paticular task. That lucky coincidence afforded us some time for a nice conversation while we enjoyed our mid-afternoon lunches.
Wendy was also once part of a project team where I was serving as the meeting facilitator. The attendees were all scientists or technical staff members and, upon our first meeting, it was a solemn group. Strictly business! Wendy quickly recognized the unnecessary formality and interjected: “Why is everyone so serious today?” It was a gentle way of reminding us all that it was OK to relax, lighten up, enjoy the camaraderie, and have a little fun. She was exactly right, and I’m glad that she chose to speak up.
Wendy’s passing is undoubtedly a tragic loss to all of her friends, her relatives, and her colleagues. I extend my deepest sympathies to all.

My sincere sympathy to Wendy's family. Wendy and I met on "day one" in Calculus class at Hofstra and formed a friendship and bond that lasted through college and many years after. I will mourn the loss of a wonderful person, remember her fondly, and appreciate the joy she brought to those of us who knew her.

Like JoAnn said, Wendy lived her life in fullness. She has a lot of friends, from UNC to NIH to Bayer/Talecris/Grifols, in Triangle and beyond. We had many meals together during the 16 years we were working for the same company, and occasionally we had a joyride in her Audi convertible! For countless times someone one would stop to say hello to Wendy or she would wave to someone in the restaurant. So Wendy is not just a gourmet eater, wine taster, she is born a good human relations person. Before I left she offered help to make connections for me in job hunting, after I left she continued my draft paper and published it with me as the first author. We used to talk about a wide range of things, from weekend adventure to around world travel. Many years ago my wife and I was visiting Cologne Botanical Garden after a pathogen safety meeting. Guess what, we saw Wendy was walking toward us, she appeared in a beautiful sunset, smiled and waved to us also in surprise, and we chat about how gorgeous the place was and how wonderful we met in an unexpected place and time. I will certainly miss Wendy but I'm sure she is rest in a peaceful and beautiful place.

To Wendy's Family,
Please accept my most sincere condolences for your loss. When I moved to Research Triangle Park in 1995 to begin a postdoc at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, it was Wendy who recognized my "deer in the headlights" look, took pity on me, and showed me around the laboratory. She had a quick wit and even quicker kind heart. I will always be grateful for her support.
Sincerely,
Samuel Bennett, Ph.D.

I have been a friend of Wendy's since she walked into our lab in 1983. She was there for my graduate work, my wedding, my children's birth and throughout our lives after that. It is hard to think of a time without her. A kind, and vibrant person that was taken from us far too soon. My condolences to her family and may you know that she was loved by many outside her biological relatives.
