As founder & former director of Empire State Games for Pysically Challenged, I wish to convey our sincere appreciation and condolences to Ginny & Hess Family. This endeavor is successful in large part to the efforts of Dutch. Tireless worker who's due diligence, compassion and selfless spirit enable these Games to provide physically challenged youngsters a lifetime of memories. Coach Hess was a very special basketball and sports coach at Great Neck South Sr. High School in the 1960's and 70's. He was instrumental in encouraging and mentoring my brother, Neil Levane, who passed away in 2002. Neil learned so much from this man who coached and taught with integrity and all-around talent and fairness. I know Dutch was thought of with great love and affection by all of the Levane family. Rest In Peace Coach Hess and our thoughts and prayers are with the Hess family.

What more can I say about a man who was so instrumental in shaping my young adult life. Not only was Coach Hess a great leader on the basketball court, he also led by example on how to live a positive family life. Ginny was always perched high up in the stands, cheering us on to victory, and their children were visible, both at our practices and our games. I cherish all of the great memories that I shared with my teammates and our coach. RIP, Dutch. Barry Birdoff Great Neck South Class of 1966
