Q: What 3 words best describe William and why?
A: He was always the smartest guy in the room . He created the most successful retail sales department in Wall Street history. I am proud to have been a part of it from day one.

In the grand scheme of life and death, true wealth is not measured by what you acquire on this side of the grave. After all, you can’t take any of that with you. Rather I believe it is measured by the goodness and enrichment you impart to others, those who can carry your legacy in their hearts and minds for the rest of their lives. Bill Welsh took a small group of brash, but talented young upstarts and molded their egos into successes that became the hardened, unassailable bedrock of true self-esteem. While many trials in life come and go, no one can ever diminish the bonds of the individual achievements and successes he made possible for these select few.
Rest in peace, Mr. Welsh. Your success lives on everyday in the spirit of those you helped to rise from mediocrity, to grab and hold the brass ring of true accomplishment, to be the best that we could be. Thank you most fondly for that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

What a great man! I started working for Bill in 1977 at age 26. I cannot express how fortunate I was to have him guiding my career at such an early age. Bill demanded the best from us but more importantly was extremely fair. I loved working for this man. My sincerest condolences to his family. I am sure Bill is resting in peace knowing how much he meant to so many people.

he was a giant in our business and he will be remembered and thanked for the success I have become and the life lessons he taught me, and I in turn taught the brokers I have trained over my career...

So sorry about Billy's passing. To say that he changed my life and the life of my Lehman Brothers and Sisters would be an understatement. RIP.
