Obituary of Robert J. Piscioneri

Robert J. (Bob) Piscioneri, age 85, passed away at home in Queens on Monday, April 30, 2018. He was born on July 16, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York. 

Bob grew up in the embrace of close-knit family in Brooklyn. He often reflected upon his happy childhood. The memories he would share about his early life painted a vivid picture of a loving, working-class immigrant family. Bob attended elementary through high school in Brooklyn. He made several lifelong friends there who followed him to Columbia University where he graduated in 1957 with masters degree in architecture. 

Shortly thereafter he met Anne T. O’Loughlin who swept him off his feet and married him on April 19, 1958. They shared a rich, fulfilling life together for the next sixty years in Fresh Meadows and Southold, LI where they made a home, raised a family, enjoyed many sunsets, and shared their intellectual curiosity and love with everyone they knew. 

Bob always knew he wanted to be an architect and he never stopped being one even after he retired at age 80. His firm Castro-Blanco, Piscioneri, and Associates thrived for decades and was for a time one of the largest architectural practice in New York. Hundreds of buildings throughout New York were designed or rehabilitated by CP&A. He was most proud of the rehab work he did in the South Bronx where CP&A were instrumental in turning an area that Ronald Reagan once said, “looks like a bombed-out city” into vital neighborhoods in which families and businesses now flourish.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Anne; sons, Jay (Barbara) and Robert (Eithne), daughter Kathleen (Adrien), and grandchildren Max, Simon, Ciara, and Matthew. An open-house memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 1-4pm here at Fairchild Funeral Chapel to share memories in celebration of Bob’s life. We look forward to spending this time with all of those who loved him.
