I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Burke. A truly gifted man professionally , and a truly spiritual man who was able to separate both sides.
His children and Grandchildren are a living testament to his personality and perpetual smile. I so enjoyed his Theological discussions and teachings in the Marian Room at St. Mary's. But I also enjoyed seeing him rooting on the St. Mary's teams of Coach Cluess at Marist Hall. ( Except if they were playing Regis or Chaminade at certain times ) He always had a kind word for you and my day was always that much better after talking to him for a bit. He will be sorely missed at St. Mary's and about Manhasset. I am glad to hear The Lord called him peacefully surrounded by his wonderful family. Rest In Peace Dr. Burke , knowing that you left a great mark in this world. And thank you for spreading the word of The Lord in so many ways.

Only recently, I had the priviledge of having Dr Burke as my instructor for "Introduction to New Testament." He taught with ferociousness in his belief that the messages in his lessons could send shivers up your spine. I will never forget his piercingly convincing stare as he summarized 1Cor 15:35-58, stating one word at a time that at the resurrection, "when we die, we will receive a NEW, GLORIFIED BODY!" Dr Burke possessed wonderful humor as well. As he explored the details in the scripture to this theme, he said of St. Paul's explaination of how we are going to go through a radical transformation (in 1Cor 15:42-44), Dr. Burke said, "I don't know about you, but I'm glad I'm getting a new body." (Nov, 2017)
I will miss you Dr. Burke.

Dear Jim, Sheila, and family,
May the Lord comfort you and bring you His peace as you mourn your loss. So glad to have met your dad at least once. May the angels take Him home.

I had the pleasure of meeting and spending a semester learning from Dr Burke this past spring. I enjoyed learning from this incredible mind and heart, firmly rooted in the Love of Christ. I found it amazing how a man of his age can talk for so long with out missing a beat or losing his breath. Thank you for raising the question "Who is the Beloved Disciple"? May you rest in Peace with that disciple and our Lord for eternity. My thoughts and prayers for Mrs.Burke and the entire family.
