No Christmas card festooned with stickers came in the mail this year, and the card I sent came back as undeliverable, and wondering led to here. I think of Peter with great fondness. He was silly and funny, right down to enrolling me (a brand new teacher at the time) as a co-presenter at a NSTA workshop on sand. I wish I hadn’t chickened out - after reading many of the comments here, it sounds like I would have met some more good people. I also remember how devoted Peter was to our Great Aunt Mary & Uncle Garry. His visits with them always brought light and joy. They always had lovely things to say about him! He and Uncle Garry shared a love of genealogy. I always appreciated the copy of the Larmour family history that Peter sent to me many years back.
Cousin Peter, I miss you. I hope all genealogical mysteries have been unraveled for you!

Peter was an amazing educator and a long time friend. I wondered why I hadn’t heard from him! My condolences to all his family. I met him through nsta many years ago and he gave so much of himself, his knowledge and expertise to all. Hel help at numerous CT Science Conferences, Nat. Earth Science workshops, field trips and with msny other events..
He introduced me to collecting sand and using a s teaching tool. Giving 100’s- maybe 1000’s of film cannisters of sand from around the world -toteachers around the world. Sharing books and other resources- teachers were always excited. He will be greatly missed by everyone. Lisa Alter alterL@yahoo. com

Pete was a fun visitor when he came to our house when there was a science convention in Philadelphia. He would bring his sleeping bag and giant bottles of
diet soda. He wanted nothing but a place to sleep and always offered to take us out to dinner. He was always in a good mood and full of stories. I think he had visited 200 zoos, almost every one in the country. He was a character.
He was at the fiftieth reunion and later when I told him I had taken photos of him he asked for copies. Claire recently notified him that we had moved and gave him our new address. He replied " has Herb found her yet." He would send us packages of books.
Good guy. We will miss him.

Mr. Larmour was by far one of the most interesting teachers my siblings and I could ever have. I remember sitting in class and him handing class assignments and tests back from when my siblings had him 10 to 15 years before. Mr Larmour will certainly never be forgotten and definitely one of a kind. Rest in peace Mr. Larmour.

I just received the Manhasset Press and saw Pete’s obituary. I am shocked and so sad. He was my friend and bridge partner over at Our Lady of Grace for years! He was so smart and funny! He had a dry sense of humor, and I always looked forward to his Christmas cards covered on the back with all sorts of stamps. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone! I will miss him!! Rest In Peace, my good friend.

It was always a treat when Peter would vist, weather at my Mom’s in Connecticut or when he was on his way anywhere (Somehow Ann Arbor could be on the way to almost anywhere). Receiving a piece of mail or a package from Peter rivaled any Christmas present. The envelope completely covered with stuff. I asked Peter if I could see our family’s side of the family tree he had compiled a few days later a package arrived with over a pound of info about the Smith- Plunkett- Haneman lineage. The world has become more unremarkable with his passing. With love, so long.

Peter was one of the best teachers I ever had! At first we thought he was nuts, when he failed the entire class on Day 2, on a 'pop quiz.' Ultimately, that was a powerful lesson.
Test in peace dear teacher and friend.

Peter and I have been friends since we first met in our freshman year at Holy Cross. He became a family friend as my wife Joan and our sons would attest. One time he visited us on the way to a Science Teachers Convention in Boston which my wife, also a teacher of science, was attending. His outfit for the convention consisted, among other things, of a sport jacket completely covered with buttons, badges and tags from several conferences he had attended during his career. It must have weighed fifty pounds and yes, as Peter would remind you, he had owned the jacket since high school. His visits to our home were out of this world on any scale you can imagine. He wrote an extended essay for our fiftieth reunion from HC that clearly had never been read or edited by anyone in a position of authority at the College or the publishers office. His life should be a book. It was that interesting.

Peter was quite a character. He was a loyal and true Holy Cross crusader. He was knowledgeable in many areas. Consequently he was an entertaining conversationalist. He would drop by, out of the blue, whenever his travels took him nearby our home. Generally he wouldn't accept anything (food or drink) from his host. All he wanted was to catch up with HC classmates and a couch to sleep on. Being a scientist myself, we had many animated conversations about new developments in science. A magnanimous and interesting fellow! He donated several books from his collection of children's literature to my daughter on one of his visits. He didn't visit often; but his visits were always enjoyable. We were very sorry to hear of his passing. Prayers and condolences to the family.

Mourning the passing of PETER LARMOUR...
Peter has been Jeff's friend for close to 20 years through their Earth Science Teacher connections. Of course, he is MY friend too, but not to the same degree since they share wonders and ideas I just never embraced the same way. His quirky visits to our home will be missed...
xPeter was known as the SAND MAN and the BOOK COLLECTOR among other things. He collected sand samples from every location in the world he visited and had friends assist him. I remember that our senior grandchildren collected sand on their Caribbean vacation a while back for Peter as did Jeff whenever we traveled. These samples Peter would label and bottle and give away at SHARE A THONS at the science conventions throughout the state and country for use in a variety of science experiments. We have another bag of used medicine bottles waiting for him...but Peter never made it here last week.
Peter and Jeff would go to Villa Italia at least once a month when Peter would stop by on his way to the Island or back up to his home in Claverack. It was a special treat for them both to enjoy each other's company.
THE BOOK COLLECTOR is another special title for Peter. He LOVED helping libraries get rid of their discarded books by bringing them to a variety of places. He made a SPECIAL HABIT of choosing titles that would interest our grandkids over the years, and Thor and Zelda especially have a HUGE collection of science related books they love thanks to Peter.
Basically, Peter was always thinking of others and always giving...so when Jeff's calls went unanswered for over a week and then the cell phone went to busy signal, we KNEW something was wrong. TODAY we were planning to drive to Claverack to his house and the local library to check on Peter since we knew no other way to contact him. But, as a last thought, I typed in his name and obituary...and there it was..sadly it says way too little...MAY HIS MEMORY BE FOR A BLESSING...

I have know Peter for many years. We met at a NSTA science convention may years ago where he was giving away sand samples and books acquired from various library sales. He would stop my house in Newburgh , N.Y. about once a month and would always bring gifts of books and science equipment. I would consider Peter to have been one of my best friends. He was the most giving of people especially of sand samples that hundreds of science teachers now have to share with their students. In recent years I have delivered and made available his sand sample to the annual convention of the NYS science teachers association meeting in Rochester. He liked to call himself the "SAND MAN". In the last week I had been trying to contact Peter by email and phone and today I was going to go by is house when my wife checked a web site and found that Peter had passed on. I look forward to meeting his siblings and friends this Friday evening. His passing presents a major whole in my life that will never be filled.

Peter was a wonderful teacher who was eccentric beyond words — would stand at the front of the class with a snake around his neck as he taught! I loved his way—soft and kind with all of us at St Peters(and the weren’t all that way). We went to sands point and explored the beach for science treasures — there should be more teachers like him. We recently reconnected via Facebook and I got a chance to thank him for being such a wonderful teacher...
His response —“well, thank you very much—but you do know that I had no idea what I was doing”!!!
May you Rest In Peace...I will never forget your lessons
