I moved to Port because of the Rice family. My first of many volunteer jobs was as a board member of Port Counseling Center. Kay & Pat showed me that community service was important & rewarding. Thank you for guding me...

Where do I start? The Rice family was a staple in my neighborhood from as early as I can remember. You could stop in anytime day or night and find somebody to talk to watching the TV in the TV room. Usually a couple of friendly dogs too. Often it would be Mr. Rice in the chair with a glass of wine on his stomach happy to see you and wondering what you been up to. K and Pat welcomed many wayward souls through their front door through the years and helped steer many of them back on course. I didn’t know many of the things in the obituary except of course his love for fishing. I may still have some bluefish in the freezer from him. When I was a young punk he gave me work as an electricians helper and I learned a lot about life from those interesting days. They had eight kids, but he and Kay’s family is much much larger, and I am very fortunate to be part of it. Fairwinds captain Pat

About 14 years ago, during my visits to Greenport, I had the pleasure of meeting and becoming acquainted with Mr. Rice (Pat) and his wonderful wife, Mrs. Rice (Kay), whom you could tell he adored! Mr. Rice truly cared about my family especially my three little ones. He always took the time to let us know how much he appreciated us and to tell us how truly special life is. Mr. Rice, I still have the gift you gave me the last time I saw you. It has been clipped to my cruiser visor ever since. I look at it and think of you always! Perhaps now you can be a guardian angel for my family! Rest in peace. Much love to Mrs. Rice and family!

Mr. Rice was my neighbor in Port, and the Rice house was a second home. I’ll miss him dearly, but will always have my many fond and amusing memories of him and that house. Hope you’re reeling in some big Blues up there, Mr Rice...

Pat was my neighbor and a great person. He moved to Greenport to retire about 20 years ago. His love of family and fishing were evident in every conversation. Sincere condolences from my family to Kay and all of the Rice family. We are so glad to have made this unforgettable friendship.
Sincerely,
The Jensen family.

Pat visited my parents, Eleanor (Rice) and Michael Saunders in Baltimore when I was about 6 or 7 years old while he was on leave. I will never forget my cousin in his navy blue “sailor suit”.

Pat Rice and the manner in which he lived his life exemplifies the definition of the “Greatest Generation”!
He was a man of many and varied talents and interests, but he never forgot the meaning of commitment and hard work.
Our prayers are with Kay and the rest of the family as they celebrate his life. Donna & Hugh Kelly , Boston
