Obituary of Anne Marie Sullivan
Anne M. Sullivan died on 24 October 2018 at the age of 62 following a nearly seven-year courageous and faith-filled battle with brain cancer.
Anne was born on 30 July 1956 in Rockville Centre, NY, to Michael and Alice Sullivan. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1974 and LI University at CW Post in 1978 and in 1980 with a Master's Degree in special education. She dedicated her life to serving others, and particularly those marginalized by society. For many years, she was employed by North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, ultimately as a director of the vocational rehabilitation unit, and later on at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in Bayside, where she worked as a teacher with special needs children. It was in this position where she fully realized her potential and thrived as a nurturer, and she succeeded in her goal to give St. Mary’s kids the best quality of life for which they could hope.
Her professional life was innately intertwined with her faith, as she was a dedicated parishioner and choir member at St. Mary’s Church; she devoted herself to exploring her spirituality, fostering friendships with fellow parishioners and clergy on pilgrimages to Europe, and creating a dynamic life for herself that encompassed her passions for hard work and prayer.
Anne is survived by her siblings Stephen, Mary Alice, Christine, Michael and John; her nieces and nephews Anne, Alice, Christopher, Margaret, John, Catherine, Thomas, and Daniel, and her most beloved great nephews and niece Scott, Andrew, Sophia, Matthew, and Thomas.
Calling hours will be held from 4pm to 8pm on Tuesday, 30 October, and a funeral Mass on Wednesday, 31 October at 11:15am at St. Mary’s Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's Hospital for Children 2901 216th Street Bayside, New York 11360
