Cooney – Margaret (nee’ Keenan) of New Hyde Park, New York passed away on December 4th 2018 at the age of 90.

Margaret, known to those closest to her as “Mere” and “Chickie”, was born in New York City to loving parents James and Katherine (nee’ Tracy) on July 14th 1928.  Margaret was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and life long friend to many.

Margaret married the love of her life and best friend Charles Cooney on August 21st 1949.  Margaret dedicated her early years to raising her three children James, Margaret, and Eileen.  Margaret loved being a grandmother to her daughter Eileen and son-in-law James Krach’s two children, Annmarie and James.  Margaret’s greatest passion in life was spending time with her family.

As a young girl, Margaret attended high school at Our Lady of Wisdom Academy and then went on to attend Kaupert Junior College majoring in Business.  Following her graduation from college, Margaret worked for many years as a French translator at The Jabus Burns Engineering Firm.

Margaret led a long and fulfilling life.  She loved being physically active and spent many happy summers swimming and socializing with her friends at the Clinton G. Martin pool.  Margaret also enjoyed bowling, Tai Chi, and playing bingo with her friends at Leisure Club.  Margaret lived her life as a faithful Catholic and attended weekly mass at Notre Dame Church.  Margaret was generous by nature and truly cared about helping those in need.  Margaret loved nurturing animals especially her many pet cats over the years.

Margaret held a special place in her family’s hearts and will be truly missed by her family and many life-long friends.

A vigil in remembrance of Margaret will be held on Friday, December 7th 2018 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Fairchild Sons.  The Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret will be held Saturday, December 8th 2018 at 11:45 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manhasset.
