My name is Paul Nittoly. I just learned of Joe’s passing. I’m saddened, shocked and disappointed I was not aware sooner. I was Joe’s roommate and fraternity brother at Rutgers. We both grew up in Franklin Square a few blocks from each other and attended Rutgers on athletic scholarships. Joe was a great guy. Smart, classy and a true gentleman. Unfortunately we lost contact when I went to law school and he went to Georgetown Med. I have many great memories of the times we spent together that I would have enjoyed sharing with his family. Rest in peace my friend.

My heartfelt condolences to Colette and family. Joe and I rotated together through Georgetown Med together. Although we lost contact over the years, I frequently remember our friendship, shared dreams of the future, and the mutual support we provided each other during those years. Joe always was a family oriented, principled, kind and funny guy who enjoyed life. Even as a first year medical student it was evident that he would become an excellent physician, he could connect with anyone he came in contact with. God Bless…

I recently learned that Joe passed.
I was a fellow in Neuroradiology at LIJ and worked with Joe for 2 years.
I'm heart broken.
Not only was he brilliant and charismatic, he was so down to earth.
I grew up in Brooklyn and Joe was a kid from Franklin Square.
He always talked about singing "duo ops" on the corner.
He always talked about his lovely wife, who he adored. I will always remember him as that good looking Italian stallion from FS.
So many great memories.
I was one of his first fellows.
He would come in the angio suite after only 15 minutes, and say" what are you doing, milking this case." He trained me to be fast and productive, which serves me well to this day.
RIP Joe.

I remember the day Joe came to lacrosse practice. He was a sophomore.Of course his physique spoke volumes about his athletic potential,But all one had to do was look in his eyes as set out to work hard. His goal was to become as good a player as possible.
He certainly succeeded.Just one of many has many successes.
Joe was a terrific father as well.I remember when Joseph was accepted to Chaminade,Joe knew I had left Carey to attend Chaminade, only to return to HFC after one year.I explained that I wasn't mature enough to navigate the rigors of life at Chaminade.I told Joe that Chaminade was not for everyone. But I went on to say that if he,his lovely bride and, more importantly Joseph felt he could succeed,Joseph should go for it.
He was a superb physician as we all know. But his greatest achievement and the truest mark of success was that of husband, father, grandfather and beloved brother.
As Shakespeare wrote; "He (Ceaser) doth bestride the narrow world like a Colossus, and we petty men, walk under his huge legs and peep about".
Joe would no doubt be embarrassed to be compared to Caesar. However IMHO....!

My sincere condolences to all of the Zito family. I worked with Dr. Zito and had the utmost respect for him and the wonderful doctor that he was. He was truly an angel on earth. May the holy father welcome him with open arms into paradise and grant peace to his family.

I am devastated to learn of the death of Dr. Joe Zito, with whom I had the pleasure of working for many years. Joe was a down to earth, funny and extraordinary physician who, although knowledgeable of all the most up to date information, also harkened back to a different time in medicine.
As just one example, he had a young patient who was very ill and who came in regularly for MRI scans. He noticed that she had missed an appointment and found out she was now too ill to make it in. He drove quite a distance from his office to her home to just sit by her bedside and hold her hand.
Joe was a prince of a guy, always a good friend to his staff, to his colleagues, to me and and to all our patients - the world will be a lesser place without him in it. I send my love to his family and to all his friends.

My deepest sympathy to the whole Zito family.
Joe and I were classmates at Polk Street School and Carey High.
It was always great to see him at Class Reunions, as well as the retirement dinner
for our beloved 6th grade teacher, Art Finger. I’ve shared photos today from those events with fellow classmates who all share fond memories of being with Joe

Our deepest sympathies to the Zito Family. I will always remember fondly Dr. Zito's positive presence at Colby lacrosse games. He was an eternal athlete and inspiration to have on the sidelines. He made you want to strive for your best on and off the field.

My thoughts and prayers are for the loving family of Dr. Z, I worked at NRAD back when it was a family, and Dr.Z was an amazing, brilliant, generous physician/man and one of the kindest members of that family. He will always be lovingly remembered, especially by those of us lucky enough to have worked with him. I hope the memories you hold in your hearts, will comfort you now, and know that he will be greatly missed always.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Colette, Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth, Michael and Bill. "Big Joe" as we cousins called him will be missed by everyone. He was full of life and had a warm and inviting personality. When we were young and as one of the few girl cousins, Joe always made a special effort to spend time with me and make me feel special. He was always trying to connect people and connect with people. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. He was someone you had to love.
Our family will be sharing all of the great memories we have about Joe for a long time. The photo I uploaded is one of my favorites from a family event in 2011.
I'm sorry I can't be there in person but I am holding you all close to my heart.
Love,
Mary Ann
