Mr Shroyer was a ***GREAT*** guy!
I was fortunate to meet the whole family several times in the late 70s and early 80s while vacationing in Vermont.
They would generously include me in family outings and adventures, to which I gladly tagged along with the slightly older "kool kids" Kenny and Kim :)
On one such occasion waterskiiing, I dropped a ski to go slalom and shortly thereafter the cast off ski was unable to be located and retrieved . . Mr Shroyer shrugged it off without a flinch and did not change his upbeat attitude one bit.
A second memory was while hiking up to Wallingford Pond - on top of a mountain . . while wading in the water i stepped on an old style beer can pull-tab and lacerated my big toe . . i was probably around 10 or 11 at the time . . Mr. Shroyer threw me up in his shoulders and hiked all the way out so we could drive back home and my parents could take me to the hospital for stitches.
RIP Mr. Shroyer a true Gentleman, thank you for the great memories!!
Sincerely;
Chris Wolf

Bruce was the best exemplar possible of what West Point strives to be: total truth, honesty, caring and service to and protection of all others and always considering himself last. Just one small instance of a lifetime of such ways of Bruce's living and thinking: It was an extremely rainy, windy night outside during one of the Village of Sands Point board meetings at Village Hall that Bruce helped lead, After the meeting
all of the many attendees rushed to their cars to get home quickly to get away from the storm. Across the street from Village Hall on Tibbits Lane where one of the families at the meeting had parked their car, a new house was under construction and because of the heavy rain the lot in front of it had become a muddy mess after the Village meeting had started. As everyone scattered to their cars Bruce noticed that the car across the street was stuck in the mud and the people couldn't keep it from sliding and getting further and further stuck in the mud. Everyone else already had left. In the heavy rain but Bruce left his car and walked across the street to help. Bruce, who was wearing a nice suit, first tried several times to push the car. When that didn't get the car moving he found a branch and rock and tried to dig all around the spinning wheel to free that wheel but that didn't work either. So he found some board and got on his hands and knees in the mud and rain he placed the board behind the spinning tire and patiently advised the driver how to turn the wheel until the car finally moved and could leave. I don't think Bruce ever told anyone of this event and this is the first time I've mentioned it to anyone. I only know about it because I was at that meeting too and was looking out the windows at Village Hall while talking at a separate later small meeting. Bruce probably thought this was a quick unimportant event that every one would do. To me, it showed and to this day shows, that if we had more people like Bruce, who had the soul and determination to sacrifice his own interests to help anyone, even those he didn't know, our civilization would not have most of the problems we have today. Many of us may not be aware of it, but we all will miss Bruce Shroyer. I know I will..

Uncle Bruce was such a giant of a man, not only in stature, but in wholehearted goodness. He was generous to a fault. We will miss his hearty laugh, and that twinkle in his eye. Please know that you were loved, even from great distances.
Love,
Melinda & John Loeblich

Mr. Shroyer and I just seemed to click when we met. He could tell that I held him in high regard for his graduation from West Point and subsequent service to our country. He appreciated the respect and returned it by being a very gracious host and answering all of my incessant questions regarding his experience at West Point and the military.
One of my favorite stories from Mr. Shroyer was when he went to Houston for a business trip as a young man, found out who was one of the most influential men in Houston, showed up on his doorstep unannounced the next day and then ended up spending the day with him talking about his business philosophy. Mr. Shroyer is only one of a few people who could have pulled that off. There was just an heir about Mr. Shroyer. He always came across as honest, classy and intelligent.
Mr. Shroyer was a great leader of his household. A leadership that started with an undying love and dedication to his beautiful wife, Pat, and most importantly, a deep respect for her abilities.
Mr. Shroyer was a great father to his daughter, Kim, and son, Kenny. From my observations his parenting style was to lead by example. I know that Kim and Kenny will miss their father greatly and so will his grandkids. The good news is that because of Mr. Shroyer's faith in Christ and because of your faith in Christ - You Will Get To See Him Again!
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you today and in the days to come.
Love Always,
Rance Bryson

We were blessed to have met Mr.Shroyer and spend an afternoon watching Christopher and Briggs play lacrosse at West Point. We enjoyed our private tour and lunch at the Thayer Hotel. Briggs has fond memories of the time spent at the lake house with the family. He said he felt like a part of the family! I know this is a very difficult time but I hope all the memories of the good times and your love for one another can comfort you. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

I can certainly relate on some level having lost both parents over the years. At this difficult time you may start to question why for which there is no answer.
Just realize that because of memories, Bruce will always be with you.
Hoping for happier times.
