Obituary of Jayne M. Velsmid
Jayne Mary Velsmid, a resident of Manhasset for 47 years passed away peacefully on May 7th, at the age of 69 surrounded by her husband Leon and her three children, Rebecca, Alissa and David. Jayne was born on September 24, 1949 to her parents John and Dorothy Dombrowski in Maspeth, NY. She graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1967 where she excelled in sports and was the captain of the volleyball team.
Jayne’s giving and loving life centered around her family and home. She was an avid gardener. Flowers were her passion. She spent every moment possible planting, pruning and weeding. She took pride in her ability to nurture and cultivate her surroundings. If she wasn’t in her own garden, she was visiting local garden shows. She spent many hours sewing and crocheting for those she loved. Whether it was a handmade outfit, baby blanket or throw, she made sure her family was wrapped in her love. Of course, this carried over to her kitchen where Jayne enjoyed baking and cooking family favorites. Easter wasn’t the same if it didn’t include her grandmother’s babka and homemade kielbasa. She enjoyed traveling and was a huge Disney fan. She and Leon would travel whenever possible. A Cinderella at heart, Disney properties and cruises were her favorite.
She was most proud of her three children and her ten grandchildren who she called her little cupcakes. Nothing put a bigger smile on her face then seeing her little ones. Jayne was a hands-on mom and grandma. Whether she was enjoying a long chat with you, giving unending tickles or simply snuggling Jayne always made you feel like you were her whole world.
Jayne is survived by her husband Leon Bishop of 30 years, her children Rebecca, Alissa and David, her 10 grandchildren, Zachary, Jacqueline, Katherine, Jeremy, Madailein, Annabelle, Evelyn, Beverly, David and Makenzie and her two sisters
