I am so sorry to have read of John’s passing this morning on Google . Two years later . Our paths crossed when his Mom helped my parents with the paperwork to get me to emigrate to America from Antiparos Greece . We gathered on family occasions a number of times and I was inspired by John and his athletic and academic achievements . We lost track of each other I moved to Jacksonville , FL, where I raised my family . RIP

Farewell, old friend. A friendship of 55 years began as plebes in the 2nd Company, carried through fieldball championships and Beat Army panties sales to nuclear powered submarines. Although we maintained only occasional contact, it always picked up right where we left off. I shall miss you - see you on the other side.

August 9th My dearest Mr. John Mortsakis, I will miss you, today, tomorrow and forever... You've taught me so much from my younger years, ever since yesterday & today.. To a person of being smart, independent, fearless, caring to love and help others, as you have, being strong inside and out and of course hardworking in life. as you always were. Thank you!!! thank you for those 30 years I've known you..thank you for showing me and all the people, what a loving and generous human being you were and are in our hearts!! God really does takes the good people away from us, because all you were was Good... You taught me how to love God and pray to him every time we needed to be picked from the everyday sorrow...well now I need him more than ever, because He took away my friend, my father figure, my role model, my inspiration.. I know He really Loved his family sooo much because all he talked about was them, his loving wife, children, his grandchildren and especially his sweet and brave brother...the Love he has for them is Eternal.... He once told me, my name means so much to him because of his beloved Grandmother, he so loved so much.. I thank the Lord above for bringing such a Wonderful and Humble person in my life..so I can always say thank you for teaching me Good!. We were so sad to hear of the passing of John. He was such a big part of our youth and the time we spent at Evagelismos Goya. We are presently in Greece so it is impossible to attend the services. Our deepest condolences to his family and to Spyro who was also a dear friend of our youth. God bless him and may his memory be forever eternal. God rest his soul.
