As I sit here trying to write a tribute to my cousin Karl I am reminded of all the great times we had as kids and adults. We didn’t live near each other so only got together on rare occasions. My Mom and Dad would go into Manhattan to visit Karl and Hilde. At this time they lived on East 81st. This was the Men’s Philanthropic Club. We visited when the club was closed and Karl and I would race around the many floors of the building playing hide and seek. Even going for a spin in the barbershop chair located on one of the lower levels
As we grew up we ventured in different directions but always staying in contact. When Karl was riding for a cycle club in Manhattan he would train by riding the 80 miles from Manhattan to our house in Cold Spring. Somehow he always managed to arrive near lunch time. Mom would get a steak out of the refrigerator for him and stuff him full so he had the energy to peddle the 80 miles back home.
Even though our visits were infrequent they always felt like we were never apart. I will miss my cousin dearly. May he rest in peace

Karl was a unique ,pensive talented friend. Anyone who could learn to play the piano in his 60's couldn't be all bad. He will be missed but not forgotten.

On the weekend of his granddaughter's second birthday this past November Karl took great care in assembling a tricycle for her. When it was completed Evelyn was so excited with the trike and you could see the joy in Karl's eyes at that. It's a great memory and testament to his love for Evelyn! Peace to Caryl, Chris, Kirstin, Evelyn and all of Karl's family.

Karl was a unique and accomplished man. He loved music and as an adult learned to play classical piano. His train layout was legendary. I will miss his humorous emails. From the “dumb blond” jokes to the more recent “senior challenges” jokes I could count on a chuckle. He loved his family and took particular delight in Evelyn. We will miss you.
