With Respect and Sadness to learn of ;the passing of your beautiful mother Astri I am the grandaughter Barbara of the Kuzma family. Your grandmother Mamoochie Bulivanetz and my grandmother(Katie Kuzma) where always together on Sunday's in Jackson heights where I would go with my parents & spent time in their lovely garden and watch the low flying planes going in to land @ Laguardia Airport. Your Mom & Dad were newly married then so my father Steve & I would go to visit. I was young and Astri would make hot chocolate from scratch which I loved. She was kind and loving. When they moved off to Northern Blvd. in Jackson Hghts. they lived on the top two floors of the house that was moved onto that property. They were there for many years as the children grew. When they moved to Douglaston where your father was remodeling the house he sadly passed away. Uncle Pete was sadly missed and Astri invited the family to the home for a lovely dinner. She made Ambrosia for desert as I remember & showed us around the beautiful home. Later on I have a memory of a party in Great Neck @ the home of Peter her son I believe. But one day while shopping with my young son we met @ the Douglaston Toys R Us, so surprised to see Astri after so long we spoke for awhile and she graciously she paid for the purchase as a gift for my son. My son will be 45 tomorrow, when I asked if he remembered this he said yes it was a Matchbox car set. Nice memories of Astri, glad to be able to share these with her family. . Very Sorry to hear of you lovely Mother's passing.

Astri was possibly the nicest kindest caring person that I ever met.I immediately took the open position of Secret Admirer in New Jersey which she seemed to enjoy.
Rest in Peace Astri.Heaven will never be the same.

My mom Kari that visited from Norway truly enjoyed the lunch we had together speaking in Norwegian and sharing memories of Norway with you. I myself enjoyed many of our talks reminiscing about our homeland. You are now finally with your husband a better place

Astri was one of the kindest, most loving individuals I have ever known. We were neighbors in Douglaston for over 20 years during which time we became dear friends. I was greatly saddened when I heard the news of her passing on Saturday. I recalled the words of the theologian John of he Cross who wrote "The Dark Night of the Soul" and noted: " after passing through the darkness, the soul sails into eternal light", and that is exactly what Astri did.
Astri demonstrated a saintly life, that of an ordinary person who does extraordinary things. Clearly she had a major impact on the lives of all who knew her. she had a charismatic personality which drew people to her. She was a superlative friend, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and the matriarch of her family. She adored her children: Susan, Peter, Richard, Lisa and Karen.
She maintained close ties to her family in Norway and loved her beautiful hand-painted furniture and pewter collection that reminded her and sustained her connection to the heritage that meant so much to her.
She faced obstacles and challenges with grace, dignity and a determination to move forward. I recall the many good times and family events we shared. She loved to talk about the garden, the children, the pets and the special occasions that she always looked forward to. Astri was a paradigm of what it meant to be a Christian person. Her love, kindness and generosity of spirit' will live on and sustain those who remain behind. She will forever remain in our hearts and minds.
Respectfully remembered with love,
Carol McCarthy
