Carol came into my life when I was 12 or 13. She gave me the best Christmas present ever, to this day - a real, full sized air hockey set. Just like in the arcades. Where she thought this monster would fit in the tiny 2 bedroom apt I lived in with my Dad in Bayside was questionable. I will never forget that present.
My Dad, a curmudgeon on his best days, was not easy to live with. Carol took great care of him for 35 years, until his last day. I've asked Carol many times why she stayed with him, her answer was only, 'I don't know.' Point is, she never said anything bad about anyone, was never judgemental.
Carol was a great cook and loved to prepare holiday meals. Everyone was welcome at her table. Believe me, there were many in our family that should have been banned, dangers to themselves and others would not be a great exaggeration. All were welcomed, treated like royalty; no unkind word ever passed her lips. She personified the holiday spirit.
Carol came to my house a few Sundays a month for dinner. She always sat in MY chair. No matter how loudly I complained, Carol spoiled my dog terribly; fed her goodies from the table non-stop. Now my dog is an incessant beggar. Her dog shed everywhere and drooled on my leg. Big dog, big drool. What a pain in the ass.
I'm tearing now, I'm going to really miss her. She brought a lot of love into my life.
