DEMETRIOS FRANGOPOULOS
June 22,1932-March 12,2020
Demetrios Frangopoulos, “Taki” or “Jimmy” Frangopoulos, was born in June 22,1932 in Thessaloniki, Greece. After he was honorably discharged from the Royal Greek Air-Force in 1952, he met Ekaterina “Ketty” Frangopoulos and married her on July 17th, 1960. Demetrios Frangopoulos owned and operated Medallioned Taxi in Greece. In 1964-1969, he was elected to be the President of the Thessaloniki Taxi Medallion Owners Association. Demetrios Frangopoulos effectively advocated the rights of his members against the “gypsy taxi industry” during his tenure. In August 1969, he immigrated from Greece to New York City where he owned and operated M & J Auto Body Collision, Inc. Auto Body Repair Business in Maspeth, New York from 1979-1991. After the death of Ketty Frangopoulos in 2002, Demetrios Frangopoulos married his second wife, Maria Sabot in 2003. Demetrios Frangopoulos is survived by his wife Maria Frangopoulos, his son Constantine Frangopoulos, his daughter-in-law Zoi Frangopoulos, his daughter Assimina “Mina” Lykos, his three grand-daughters Evdokia “Eve” Frangopoulos, Alexia Frangopoulos, and Ekaterina Lykos as well as his grand-son Praxiteles Lykos.
