How would anyone have anything bad to say about my Aunt Joan? She was always kind and welcoming. A family dinner would not end until she brought out the trifle.
Her reserved dignity kept the otherwise feisty Flanagan clan grounded. She enjoyed a full, long life and may she rest in peace.

Sending lots of love and prayers to the Flanagan family. Joan Flanagan was such a beautiful person, inside and out. The love she had for her family was abundant and I feel so lucky to have known her. I will cherish the memories. xo

So much of who I am today, I owe to my grandmother, Joan Flanagan. She truly was a jack of all trades. I’ve learned so much from her. She taught me about self sufficiency, always being open to learning something new and going after what you want. She lived such an incredible life; and her knowledge ranged from science, to the arts, to astrology, and even construction. I remember when I was young I liked to take things apart and put them back together. If ever I was stumped; my Nan would hand me a tool and encourage me to use my mind. With her, I was always learning. I love you and miss you Nan Flanagan. You truly were the glue that held this family together. I promise to keep making you proud.

Nana was one of the most loving and excepting person i have met. She excepted those she never had to as her own. The knowledge and experience she passed on to me will never be forgotten. Me and my family will forever remember the lessons of being humble and kind will always be in remembered.

Sending all my love to the Flanagan family. Joan was such an amazing woman, loved and loved by all. She would always make everyone feel important, remembering little details about their lives and asking questions about it, always smiling. From the stories I have heard from family she was small but mighty, an angel among us. May she Rest In Peace now at her husbands side in heaven. Always in our hearts.

We have so many wonderful memories of spending time with Aunt Joan, Uncle Tom, and 'gang.' Growing up, the Flanagan and Wuthenow families often got together, especially on holidays. Special times!
All our love,

When I met Shawn (Nans oldest Grandson) Nan was one of his first family members I had the chance to meet. I remember vividly walking into her home in Mineola with butterflies in my stomach. She immediately welcomed me into her home and into her family. I’m so blessed to have married Shawn because I gained another grandmother. Both of my Grandmothers passed years ago and Nan quickly became the grandmother to me I longed to still have in my life. Her voice, her stories, her smile and laugh I will never ever forget. How wonderful it was to see my 2 children in her arms from infants until now. We love you Nan

My Deepest Sympathy to the Flanagan Family . My Love, Prayers and Heart goes out to them in this difficult time.
I will always Love and remember Joan ( or Nan as she was fondly known ) for her Elegance and Love of life . She was one of the most elegant ladies I have ever known. Beautiful inside as she was outside. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone. She was always great to be around, so happy and full of life . I always enjoyed seeing her and listening to all her stories. She had such a sharp mind and was so interesting to listen to. I always had a great time with her and will forever feel so blessed to have known her. To know her was to Love her.
She will live on in our hearts and thoughts and
be truly missed!

Mrs Flanagan was an amazing person and I feel so blessed to have known her. One of my favorite memories is when I made my Christmas spiced wine years ago and took some to Kathie and Stephens House. She tried this barbaric drink and exclaimed “Oh this is lovely” she really seemed to appreciate life and all the little things.

On March 7, 1987 we moved into our home on Bauer Place and met Mr. and Mrs. Flanagan. We knew instantly that it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Over the years they shared in all of the special moments in our family’s life from our children’s christening, birthdays, communion, school concerts, graduations, block parties, Christmas Eve’s and all the countless in between. They were always there for us. Vinny and I would often say how did we get so lucky to have them in our lives. As a young couple at the outset of starting a family, we couldn’t have had better role models than them (other than our own parents). We will forever be thankful for their gracious spirits and for having them in our lives. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Mom Flanagan meant the world to me. She and Pop were so welcoming when I joined the Flanagan family and we enjoyed so many wonderful times together over the years. She was more to me than a mother-in-law; she was my dear friend.
Mom and Pop loved their grandchildren more than anything in the world and they were the BEST babysitters. They never refused a trip to New Hampshire to be with Kailey and Bryan, even coming up to NH on an emergency basis when my parents had to cancel due to a health issue. We never even had to ask them to help us; they simply packed a bag, jumped in their car and arrived on our doorstep a few hours later so we didn’t have to miss our trip.
Nana loved New Hampshire and talked often about their summer vacations to New Found Lake while her own family was growing up. They loved Wentworth Marina and I remember one day in particular that I will never forget. Mom and I were down below on the boat having coffee and she spend the next 3 hours telling me the story of her life...from early childhood in England to meeting Pop during the War, to traveling on the Queen Mary on her own and the adventures on board that ship, to getting married to the man of her dreams, to settling in NYC and having her wonderful family. We laughed a lot, and cried a little, as she recounted the events in her life. It was a wonderful life. I only wish I had a tape recorder that day so I could share her memories with all of you.
Mom loved Dover Sole and lobster and we enjoyed a glass of Chardonnay whenever we were together. She was a devoted patron of Talbot’s and we shopped ‘til we dropped on more than one occasion. Speaking of Talbot’s and clothing, nobody was a better dresser than Mom and she was always perfectly put together and set the bar very high for the rest of us! She was the epitome of class and style and grace and I will miss her greatly.
I, too, am confident that Pop was waiting for her at the gate to Heaven and was whistling “Day Break”. It’s a beautiful vision and it gives me so much joy to imagine their reunion after so many years. I will think of them dancing and singing through eternity and can take strength from knowing that she is home with the man she loves and is at peace after a life well-lived.
I love you, Mom. Dance the night away!

We all have very fond memories of auntie Joan and Uncle Tom. They were a special couple. I had a wonderful holiday with them in 1976 ( apart from the incident! ) We loved seeing them on their visits to England and they were always very generous with their time. Sally and I loved receiving our Christmas parcel from auntie Joan when we were children. It was the highlight of Christmas for many years!
Auntie Joan was my mum’s best friend and they kept up a close friendship across the miles. Auntie Joan’s letter writing was second to none and she was a faithful friend. Our parents spent many holidays together in England and abroad and I know they relished each other’s company. One of the highlights was their visit to the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool where they danced the afternoon away and then sang all the ‘old’ songs on the back seat of the coach on their journey back to Cleethorpes!
As my godmother she was very supportive and always took an interest in my musical and sporting activities.
We will remember auntie Joan and Uncle Tom with very fond memories of the special people they were.
Love from Jane, Sally, Geoff, Amy, Sam, Joe & all the family. xx

My mother shaped and influenced my entire life. She was an incredible mother to myself and my three brothers. She was strong willed, meticulous, loving and totally committed to her family. The lessons she taught prepared all of us for an incredible life full of challenges. Her will to live these past 9 months have set an example for her 4 sons, 11 grandkids and 11 great grandchildren to never quit and to never give up. She lived the ultimate love story with the love of her life, her Tommy - our father. I know he met her in heaven whistling "Daybreak" just like he use to when he met her during World War II, and is now dancing with her for eternity. We love you and will miss you Mom, but we are happy you are with Dad.

An amazing Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma. My Mom set the bar high on her desire to live life to the fullest. Heaven is a little sweeter with her presence.
