Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary F. Cacciola, born in Brooklyn on April 15, 1931, passed away after a long battle with congestive heart failure on April 3, 2020. She was the beloved daughter of Italian immigrants, Enrico and Pietrina, the sister of Leo, and the stepdaughter of Salvatore. Mary married the love of her life, Anthony, in 1960 and they resided in Queens, where they had two daughters, Trisha and Valerie. Valerie passed away tragically at the age of 8 years old. Trisha is an attorney who resides in Manhasset with her husband, Glenn, and Mary’s beloved grandchildren, Courtney Valerie, Jonathan Anthony, and Tyler Joseph. Mary grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn and was incredibly proud of her Sicilian heritage. She attended Grover Cleveland High School and won medals for her academic performance. She was only able to complete a year of college before her father died and her mother became ill. Mary worked at Citibank for many years where she met her husband, Tony. Mary was a devoted wife and mother who strived to create a beautiful home life for her family. She was a wonderful cook, and constantly hosted extended family and friend dinners at her house. Family and friends meant everything to her. She was also dedicated to academics, and encouraged her daughters to strive for excellence and achieve their goals. She was often heard to use a favorite line with her daughter: “The next best thing to a pushy mother is a good education – aren’t you lucky you have both.” Her grandchildren were the delights of her life and she spent as much time as she could with them, playing with them, cooking for them, and, of course, encouraging them to do well in school. Her constant love, warmth and generosity will be greatly missed.
