Obituary of Jean O'Hara

Mary Jane “Jean” O’Hara 9/14/1937-6/28/2020 Jean O’Hara went to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ on June 28, 2020. Jean was a native of Belfast, Northern Ireland. She was born to James and Celia Barber. Jean had six siblings, James, Francis, Sheila, Patricia, Christina and Brendan. Her family was the source of her strong Catholic faith that would carry her through her entire life. Jean left home to come to America in 1960 to seek opportunities that were not available to her in Northern Ireland. She was sponsored by her Aunt Kate and lived with her in the Bronx while working at the Guardian Life Insurance Company in New York City. She was a parishioner of St. Vincent Ferrer in Brooklyn, St. Edward the Confessor in Syosset, and St. Anne’s in Garden City while she lived in those neighborhoods. She was a dedicated volunteer at the Mercy Soup Kitchen, a member of the Mercy League and the Irish-American Society. She is survived by her loving daughters Barbara (Dennis) of Manhasset and Trish (Joe) of Stewart Manor. She was a proud and devoted Nanny to Conor, Caitlin, Cara, Colleen and Jerry. She also leaves behind her loving sisters, Patricia and Christina, her beloved brother-in-law Gerry, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. We will be forever grateful to her beloved aide and companion Patricia Sprags. St. Padre Pio please pray for her.
