Our thoughts are with Matty’s family. Hearing the news of his passing was a shock. He was such a good neighbor, civic leader and great American. You will be missed. R.I.P.

My deepest condolences to Denise, Lauren, and all the others that were close to Matthew.
I look forward to continuing our 75 year friendship in the beyond. We met when we were 7 years old, learning our Latin to become alter boys at Our Lady of Peace Church in Brooklyn. We double dated when we first met our wives and enjoyed socializing over the years. He was my best man at my wedding.
I will miss him. May he rest in peace.

Everything is different when your a child. The trees are higher ,the colors are brighter, & every new day is interesting. When I was a child, I had such happy memories of my Uncle. I enjoyed his laughter when I would jump up & down on his back.As an adult I enjoyed going out to dinner with him & having conversations about food, movies & family. He will always have a special place in my ❤️ I know my Dad will take care of him while they visit the angles. Love your Niece Judy

Matty became a very close friend over 20 years ago when we moved across the street from he and Grace. They were just retiring and snow-birding in Florida for month long stints during the winters and were fussy about keeping their house in order. We would watch the house, water plants, shovel snow etc. They were so grateful that they had us come visit them in Florida for a few days each year. They were sometimes like parents to us and most times close friends. They were like grandparents to our children. Suddenly Matty had 3 boys living across the street and a guy in the construction business to talk about the old days with.... We watched out for each other, helped each other, watched movies, went out to dinner, went to the club.... All kinds of things....When Grace passed away I found a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue and went over with two glasses and we sat in Matty's office, drank neat scotch, cried, laughed and remembered. He was there to lean on when we had trouble and we were there for him to lean on when he needed. Just like family... Matty was big. USMC, Local #3, American Legion, K of C, St Mary's, Kiwanis...... He was just honored by Senator Ann Kaplan..... He never stopped. He was even a fixture at Equinox gym! We never dreamed that he wouldn't come back home to us. He had so much left to do. To say that he'd be missed would be an understatement. He was a Pal, a father figure, a brother, a confidant, and a sounding board. Matty, rest in peace. You were happy here with us, you'll find happiness with Grace now.

Matt was a good friend. He was loved by so many people. He was generous, kind, funny, interesting and so full of life. Matt would say often how much he missed Grace. Now they are together. My prayers are with the family.
