Obituary of William J. Signorile

William J. Signorile, 95, (Jamaica, NY) passed away peacefully at his home on November 5, 2020. He was born on August 4, 1925 in the Bronx to Maria (Volpe) and Angelo Signorile. William was a US Army Veteran served in World War II, enlisted in October 1943. He departed for Liverpool on May 13, 1944 and serving in Central Europe and Northern France, he proudly told the story of the German Surrender, as he was on an Island about to cross the English Channel as part of Operation Overland in the invasion of Normandy. He earned Eames Medal and Good Conduct Medal and returned to the United States on October 27, 1945. Soon after his return he started to work as a Lithographer in Manhattan and was a member of the Amalgamated Lithographers of America Local One. He worked until his retirement. William was preceded in death by his wife Josephine Mongelluzzo Signorile, whom he met at a college dance on the Upper East side of Manhattan. They enjoyed outdoor activities and he enjoyed telling stories of their Honeymoon trip driving across the country, including their arrival at Lake Tahoe to ski and discovered no snow. His wife passed suddenly in 1972 and William raised and provided for his four young sons on his own. He is also preceded by his brother Anthony Signorile. Surviving are his four sons, William Signorile (Carol) of West Hempstead, Paul Signorile (Jeannie) of Manhasset, Edward Signorile (Douglas John) of New York and John Signorile (Maria) of East Williston along with his 7 grandkids, Alex, William, Joseph, Michael, Jaqueline, Angela and Joanna. He enjoyed Cooking and baking family deserts for birthdays including the classic Genoise Cake with Butter Crème and Praline. He enjoyed his garden and nature and watching Turner Classic Movies and the Olympics. He was a natural athlete, as a completive body builder, weight lifter, downhill skier, swimmer until the age of 87 and ballroom dancing including dancing at Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan.
