It was with great sadness, and deep appreciation for a nearly life-long friendship between our families, that I learned of the passing of “Mr. Belley.” His daughter, Nancy, called me with the sad news last week. My immediate family and the Belley family have been friends since the early 1960’s when we all lived in the same neighborhood in Verona, NJ.
It is a very rare thing for most of us to still be in contact with ANYONE who attended our 5th birthday parties. Nancy and Susan were at my 5th birthday party and our families remained friends after moving from NJ to NY. Our families moved to different parts of NY in the mid-60’s, but we still managed to make occasional day trips to Long Island for visits with the Belley’s, and they would make the pilgrimage to Poughkeepsie to visit us. It was always a greatly anticipated treat when those visits were scheduled.
Many of those visits included viewings of Richard’s latest artistic creations. He was truly a gifted artist and some of his creations grace our homes to this day. He would also share his slide shows of photos from their world travels. His narrations of the details of the photos were worthy of a documentary film maker. I recall one photo in particular that he lingered upon for a while, until we figured out that it was an aerial photo that he had taken while piloting a plane above our house. That photo is still displayed at my Dad’s home in Poughkeepsie.
Rest in peace, Richard. You and “The Belley Girls,” Carole, Susan and Nancy, are as much a part of our family as we are of yours. Thank you for your part in the lifetime of memories that we all share. God bless you all.

Our two family's roots go back as far as I can remember, to our days in Verona NJ in the early 60's. As such, the Belley family is essentially part of our extended family, and today we've lost an important and beloved member of the family. But in our hearts "Mr. Belley" will always remain.
