George was born both profoundly deaf and unable to speak in Westhampton Beach, NY.  Although he had a difficult childhood, and very tough times at Willowbrook State School on Staten Island, he was later moved to the Neumann Residence in 1978.  Run by Catholic Charities, he was able to work and travel with his housemates, which he enjoyed.  He spent most holidays with his Ryder family until unable to do so this year. He enriched our lives with his sweet spirit and he will be missed.
