I stumbled across this by accident; I was saddened to read it. I worked with Mary at Francis Lewis HS many years ago and I can attest to her beauty, humor, and intelligence. Glad, at least, that she lived a long, full life.

As a paraprofessional at Francis Lewis HS I was assigned to send faxes one period a day from the principals office. I would chat briefly with Mary, who encouraged me to get my secretarial license. I did, and I was so happy for her support through the daunting DOE processing. I often think of her and what a lovely, gracious role model she had been for me. My condolences to her family - you indeed have suffered a great loss.

There was no one like Aunt Mary- ever- I can still hear her laughter ,I hope forever -
She always bet the 5th horse on the 5th race race on her birthday: May 5 at Belmont - 5-5-5- Denis O'Brien , my Father and I would always follow suit - I hope you all will join us in continuing her tradition forever - with love - Joey, Daiany, Liam and Marina O'Brien

Open The Gate
Life is just not
The same today
It feels quite empty
In a way
It’s hard to write
Or even speak
With my heart broken
My spirit weak
With all our hope
To you my dear
May Gods sweet love
Keep you near
We offer up
Your gentle soul
Up up and away
To heaven you go
Now at peace
But not alone
She’s not going away
She’s going home
St Peter will yell
“Don’t make her wait
Our Mary is here
Just Open the Gate”
Love you Aunt Mary,
Stephen

At Francis Lewis High School Mary was adored by many. The staff held her in high regard and the students respected and appreciated Mr Burn’s wonderful secretary. It was always a pleasure to work together and tackle various assignments. Laughter was always a part of the process .
Our professional relationship was outstanding and I am grateful for the friendship that continued for many years.
My condolences to the family. For years I listened to the stories about the Mannix children and grandchildren.

My Great Aunt Mary was regal, plain and simple. Great Uncle Bill and she played a momentary pivotal role in my life by aiding and abetting my wanderlust, inspiring me to Ireland in 1987 which would be the my first taste of overseas adventure, which would lead to much more. May she rest in eternal peace.

We are saddened to hear of Mary's passing. However, Virginia and I take comfort in knowing that we were fortunate to have known Mary, to have been able to talk with her and laugh along with her. We will always have those cherished memories and we'll especially remember how Mary's cheerful personality was complemented by her warm smile.

I will miss her immensely.

A wonderful tribute to your Mom, Eileen. I am so sorry to learn of her passing. I have such fond memories of our family trip to Ireland, so hard to believe that was eight years ago. She was so beautiful, ageless, warm and simply a joy to be with. She certainly had a full life, surrounded by her loving family. Sending you all prayers of comfort and peace.

My beloved Grandmary was as elegant and unique as the character name she took on. Always put together, her jazzy ensembles, and styled hair, caught gazes and compliments worldwide!
She was the perfect travel companion, enthused and awestruck daily, but ready to share an eye-roll or side comment by the end of a long day.
Her well-kept appearance was not effortless, as those close to her were very aware. I will always laugh, when I think about how she and Eileen almost didnt make it through airport security, on the way to my wedding. Grandmary packed a few dollops of her “must have” cold cream in saran wrap, which, on first glance by TSA, looked a lot like a brick of C4!
An earlier strong memory I have, was the first time I recognized Grandmary had a much spunkier sense of humor than most in our family: I was around 9, and we were playing Scattergories, reading out our answers for Body Parts that start with “B”, after her children impressed with Brain, Brow, Bones etc, she confidently shared “Boobs” with a look, you knew, she was ready to stand by it!
Her tales of line dancing and performing were always a hit, but even her day to day stories about coworkers, friends and family were a form of entertainment.
I missed you already, Grandmary, but I am grateful to have many happy memories to revisit, and a plethora of people, who knew and loved you, that may share something I never knew.
Love always, Katie

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs Mannix’s passing. I have the fondest memories of spending time in her presence with Brian and all the Mannix kids. She was always welcoming and kind. She had a musical soul, and her singing was always there. She’ll be missed by all … especially the McCabes.
