You will be missed "Uncle" George. You were a huge part of our lives - since were babies. And Joanne - my second mother. It makes my heart bloom knowing you will be reunited with her. I loved you and will miss you. Give Joanne a massive hug and kiss from me. Peter, Steven, Christopher, Alfie and Anthony - my deepest condolences. We were all extended family growing up. Here is another memory of Uncle George from when he was still driving a Volkswagen Beetle and Peter was little. I do not know if this story is known, or if Uncle George told only me. Before seat belts, before safety car seats for kids put in the back row, kids got to sit in the front passenger seat. On one trip Peter was looking out the open window on the car door with his arms out the window. Uncle George did not know that the passenger door had become unlatched. So, when he made a left turn the passenger door swung open with Peter holding on to the door. But Peter never lost his hold on the door & was quickly brought in as soon as Uncle George could straighten out the car. I do not know if Peter even remembers. From John Bendo

When I was young, there were family get togethers on Sundays at Papou & Yiayia's house. Uncle George was a young man still living at home. At some point he would sit on the floor in the living room & invite his nieces & nephews to wrestle him all at once. So I, & Bill Stathis & Tina Stathis & my Sister Katherine would all jump on him together. We thought it was great fun. He did that a few times. I remember how everybody missed him when he went off to active duty in the Air Force on a base in Texas. He was gone for a year or more. We were so happy when he came back. He said that even though he was in Texas, he found out it still got very cold there in the winter. I remember the summer visits to Rockaway with his young family, driving a Volkswagen Beetle with a stick shift. And he was always interested in what I was doing. From John Bendo

Great mementos John, thank you for sharing. We all know very well how he loved to get on the floor and wrestle. He tossed us around very often!
