Miss Kathy, When the three of us last met for my *Farewell to New York and my 4/17/71 Marriage Gala* in the winter of 2007 in Woodbury, you chose The Fox Hollow Inn. I never told you that was where Jason and Erica were married 3/23/03. They divorced 2years later. All of our hearts were shattered. We all are still basking in our favorite playgrounds. We will live forever somewhere in this Universe! C U around. Always a fan. Janet

Professor O'Loughlin, thank you for everything you have done for me and other students. You were the first psychology professor I ever had in college. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be pursuing a Master's degree in counseling. I remember you and your class so vividly because you always cared so much about your students and made it a fun environment. I went back to NCC today for a work event and found out about her passing and it brought back so many positive memories. My deepest condolences to her family. I will never forget you!

Kathy exemplified one of the secrets to teaching which is that good teaching is found mostly in the heart. Kathy not only provided her students with knowledge, skills, and tools needed in life, but she also motivated, encouraged, inspired, and challenged each individual student. In short, she transformed thousands of students (and colleagues) over her 40 year teaching career. Kathy was the consummate professional who had an infectious smile. Whenever and wherever you encountered her, laughter was soon to follow. There was no better model for students to follow as they transformed into their adulthood. Kathy: Thank you for being an amazing teacher, colleague, friend, and person.

When I think of Kathy, I think of radiance: She is forever a shining star, warming the world with her positive energy and love. Always a dedicated professor and advocate of positive psychology, peace, and justice, she made this world a better place. Kathy and I always signed our emails with a phrase from a Joan Baez song, “Dona nobis pacem” (Give us peace): RIP, Kathy.
Love always,
Wendy

I remember meeting Kathy when she offered to come to my Psychology 101 class to teach my high school students. Joanie introduced us and it was evident just how caring, intelligent and kind Kathy was. She also was passionate about teaching a subject that she loved. I'm so grateful to have met her and to have heard so much about her through the pride and love that her sister, Joanie feels toward her over the years. I'm sending my deepest condolences to her family and I pray that her amazing life and the person that she was continues to live on through all of her many loving memories. ❤️

Oh, my heart... I have never met two more inspiring people who loved each other so much and never gave up on all that life had to offer no matter what challenges life brought their way. Eddie, the way you love and spoke about Kathy O, I wish so many could even imagine. May heaven gain a beautiful angel to look over all of us especially you. May Kathy finally rest as we are all in awe of her journey, strength, and courageousness.

Kathy was a respected and admired colleague and a cherished friend. We did important work and had fun times together – so many fond memories. In 2004, Kathy and I, along with our colleagues/friends, Liz and Anna, attended and presented at the annual convention of the National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs (NACCTEP) in San Francisco. We treated ourselves to a one-day side trip down the coast. Our destination was Nepenthe, a restaurant in Big Sur. It was a very stormy day. One of our stops was along the 17-Mile Drive in Pebble Beach. The first photo is of Kathy on the beach – truly sunshine on a cloudy day. The second, is further south on the Pacific Coast Highway, Kathy’s inner glow shining through. The third, is all of us outside Nepenthe, on a deck overlooking the Pacific. The restaurant takes its name from a fictional drug that is mentioned in the Odyssey. Nepenthe is described as a potion with the power to induce forgetfulness of pain or sorrow. It would take a very large dose of Nepenthe and a very long time to reduce the sorrow of Kathy’s passing.
