Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Boyle (1934-2021)

Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Boyle, 87, of Great Neck, NY, passed away November 19, 2021 in hospice home care after an extended illness. Mary was predeceased by her brother John W. Jr. (Alicia) and parents John W. Sr., and Mary (McGinley) Snakard. Some of Mary’s fondest memories as a child were her visits to her Parents Families in Texas. She attended Saint Aloysius Grade School, graduated from Great Neck North High School, and went on to major in English at The College of Saint Elizabeth’s. Mary and her late husband, Joseph E. Boyle, enjoyed 42 years of marriage together.

Mary built her career of over three decades with the Great Neck School District, while raising her two children. Throughout her 87 years of life, Mary maintained a strong Catholic faith. Her devotion to the Church, her family, country, and dear friends were her passions in life. She was active with her Saint Aloysius parish including the Legion of Mary, RCIA, food pantry, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, and visiting the elderly in local nursing homes. Mary and Joe cherished their laughs and memories with their many friends. She was known for her compassion and selflessness – always putting others first.

Mary “Liz” was beloved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed. She truly was a role model. Mary is survived by her sister, Jeanne Snakard; son, John Boyle of Great Neck, NY; daughter, Maryann (Bruce) Ginder of Pittsford, NY; and grandchildren Michael, Gregory, and Megan Ginder; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Mary’s family is thankful for the friends and caregivers who so lovingly cared for her in her home, especially Mae Rancher, Sophie Baptiste, Vyleen Brizard, and Jasmine Gardner.

Calling hours will be held at Fairchild Sons in Manhasset, NY from 4-7PM on December 3rd. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on December 4th at 11:45AM at Saint Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Great Neck, NY. Interment will follow at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, NY.

In the spirit of Mary’s well-known generosity through her various charitable commitments, donations can be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
