Obituary of Joan C. Soter

Joan C. Soter was a loving soul who departed this world on August 20th, 2022. She passed at her home, surrounded by her four children: Peter, Alexandra, Andrew and Stephanie.  Joan was a devoted Mother, Yia Yia, Aunt and Best Friend.  She was a beloved Yia Yia to Athena, Nico, and Kalliope.  She was widowed to her late husband, William, in December of 2014.  Joan was born to Virginia and Thomas Lyons in Brooklyn, NY on December 10th, 1940.  After graduating high school and entering Marymount College, she met her future husband Bill while they were working at the World’s Fair in Queens, NY in 1964.  In 1972 they moved to Manhasset to start a family.  Joan loved so much of what life had to offer, most especially her family, friends, every person she met, music, her pets, and her garden.  She was a faithful woman who spent her life spreading love and her Greek Orthodox faith to all who surrounded her.
