I came out to New York in the 80's on a J1 visa after college. I am a cousin of Gerry's wife Margaret. I was staying in a hostel in Manhattan. Gerry brought me out to his home in Manhasset to meet his five children. I moved in that weekend and was still there over a year later! His generosity of Spirit I cannot adequately articulate. He treated me like a daughter. His boundless love for America,his determination to share that love of his country with me has left a lifelong impression on me. When I think of America I think of Gerry and his boundless generosity and enthusiasm. When my then ex boyfriend arrived out a year later for a visit. Gerry moved him in too. He provided us with a car so that we could see more of his beloved Country. This huge heart of a Man probably changed the course of my life, because a year later he flew his whole family over to Ireland for our Wedding. A huge gift to all of us. We will be thanking Gerry for all our lives. We extend our deepest Condolences to Margaret and the entire Diskin family. We are blessed and honored to be here in New York at the time of Gerry's passing. A magnificent soul has entered the Heavens. Slan Abhaile, Slan go Foill, Gerry. Aideen and John Mc Crann
