Joe was a patient and wonderfully collaborative guide and partner in the development of HIV programs and policy across the public hospital system in New York for many years. He generously shared his passion for learning and deep clinical expertise to craft Corporatewide treatment programs and community partnerships, the first Special Needs program for people with HIV in the state, a modernized Corporate research program, HHC's response to Ebola and so much more. He was a friend, a mentor, a teacher and, always, a proud and loving husband and father. I am so sorry to hear of his passing; I hope you find some comfort in the love so many of us have for Joe. Dr Masci was an exceptional person, physician, teacher and mentor. Year after year, he trained physicians in infectious disease and internal medicine, and all who had the privilege to be taught by him benefited immensely from his extraordinary clinical and teaching skills. He transmitted his broad knowledge in a gentle, calm and composed manner which endeared patients, trainees and colleagues alike. Despite his huge accomplishments as a physician, teacher, author and contributions to global welfare, he remained kind and unpretentious. He was one these people who make the world a better place through their impact on so many people's lives in so many different ways. For all he has taught me and that I still carry with me in my daily practice as an ID physician, and for being my role model, I am eternally grateful. My deepest condolences to his family.

I want to express my deepest condolences for this sudden loss. I started my career as a internist in Elmhurst Hospital in1998. His exemplary leadership and his teaching inspired me to stay in Elmhurst. He influenced ao much to my career and so many. He will be greatly missed. Chang Yoo MD
