Arthur Barragan Obituary

On Monday, January 31st, 2023, Arthur Barragan, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 92 due to pancreatic cancer.

Arthur was born on September 6th, 1930, in the West Side of Manhattan to Carlos and Maria Luisa Barragan. He served in the Navy as a radar operator on a TBF Avenger from 1950-1954. He received his associate degree in architecture from the Pratt Institute in 1958. His practice as a registered architect included over 30 years of service as a volunteer for the Queens Community Board 7. He received several awards for his dedication, including the Anthony Emma Memorial Award for “Constant Devotion for the Betterment of his Community” in Northeast Queens.

Arthur was preceded in death by his sister, Christina, and beloved wife, Mary. Arthur and Mary were married in 1955 and had a loving marriage for over 64 years. They raised three children, Linda, Elaine, and Arthur. Arthur is survived by his children, his brother, Edward, his grandchildren, Daniel, Emily, Sarah, Caroline, Brett, and Grace, and great granddaughter, Gwendolyn.

Arthur had a passion for art, listening to his favorite classical music as he created the beautiful paintings and drawings that hang in the homes of his children. He was an avid sports lover, frequently cheering on his favorite teams, the New York Jets and Yankees. He spent much of his time biking across the Cross Island Parkway. He loved to swim and could always be found smiling at the beach in the summer. He was known for his friendly and considerate disposition and his love of sweets, always asking for a second serving with the utmost politeness. His charm and humor coupled with his poise and class made him a favorite among the ladies at the Bristol

Assisted Living, coining him the title of “Handsome Arthur.” Aside from his fanbase, Arthur will forever and always only have eyes for his Mary.

Viewings will be held at Fairchild Sons Funeral Chapel, 1570 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset, NY 11030 on Sunday, February 5th, from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Mass will be held at the Church of Saint Mary, 1300 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset, NY 11030 on Monday, February 6th, at 10:15am. The interment will follow at Mount St. Mary Cemetery, 172-00 Booth Memorial Ave, Flushing, NY 11365. As Arthur would say, “Don’t forget to bring two sets of car keys.”
