Thomas Edward Carter

Thomas Edward Carter of Rockville Center, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2023. Tom was born on December 29,1928 to parents James and Mary Carter in, New York City. Tom was a beloved son, brother, brother-in-law and uncle during his incredible 94 years of life.

Tom and his sister, Pat always enjoyed reminiscing about their early years growing up in Washington Heights. Tom graduated from Powell Memorial High School, after which he went on to enlist in the Army and later transferred to the Air Force. While in the Air Force, he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. His specialty was the repair of radar in fighter jets.

Tom was an autodidact and became knowledgeable in many fields especially stamp collecting. He became a philatelist and spent many happy years working for a company, which specializes in collectible stamps.

Among his other interests, Tom enjoyed taking road trips, embarking on boating adventures, and attending family gatherings.

Tom is survived by his sister, Patricia Degnan, brother-in-law Thomas Degnan, nieces and nephews, Mary McGuire, Thomas Degnan, Patricia Murray and James Degnan, as well as six grand nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Fairchild Sons Funeral Chapel, 1570 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset, NY 11030 on Monday, February 6th, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7th,10:15 am – 11:15 am at the Church of Saint Mary, 1300 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset. The interment will follow, 12:15 pm – 1:00 pm at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W. Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY
