My fondest memories of Uncle Matty go back to when we were kids. I remember being at a family gathering… all the adults were inside talking and the kids were outside playing— except for Uncle Matty. He was always out playing with the kids. Amy and I thought he was so fun how he would just jump in to play whatever silly game we were playing. I think he told us it was boring inside:) Later, learning about his career… I remember my Dad saying “Uncle Matty is a genius.” He was so unassuming which makes his accomplishments even more impressive. Sending love to Carolyn & Michael.

I will always remember Manush as a deeply good and decent human being. He was a lifelong friend to my late husband Sal who considered him a brother. For many years they met regularly for good food and conversation in their favorite restaurants in the Village, where they were often joined by Manush’s younger brother, Hal. A New Yorker to the core, Manush was a brilliant engineer with a broad range of interests. I will always cherish our tradition of gathering with him and his beautiful family during the holidays for a special festive dinner somewhere in the city. My husband, who had once studied for the priesthood in Rome before becoming a lawyer, often looked to Manush as the living proof that one can live a life at the highest level of ethical standards, yet without need for any of the trappings of religion.
My deepest condolences to Manush’s son Michael and daughter Carolyn.

We met Matty and Virginia when our children were in nursery school and felt an immediate affinity. Our friendship, forged then, lasted for more than fifty years. We shared a love of books, a love of family, and the warmth of an enduring friendship. Matty's intellect and integrity were a beacon to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

I met Matt and Virginia only relatively recently (maybe 9 or 10 years ago) when they became part of a group associated with Mary Manning Walsh nursing home. They were part of a group that met for dinner frequently; they were charming, witty, interesting and very nice people and I looked forward to seeing them. I was very saddened when Virginia passed away and now I am feeling the same way after hearing about Matt. They were wonderful, sweet, cultured people and they will be greatly missed.
