I grew up in little Neck and Douglaston and remember Dr. Mistretta coming to our house several times for a house call. I really liked him. He was one reason I decided to pursue medicine as a career. But not in pediatrics-too crazy! Rest in peace,Dr. Mistretta!

I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Mistretta. When my daughter was two years old, he saw something creative in her and gave me advice in how to handle her development. It directly led to the wonderful career she has now at 34 years old. Luckily I ran into him shopping one day and was able to tell him how his words greatly affected her life. Thank you Dr. Mistretta. You will be greatly missed.

I was thinking of Dr. Mistretta and decided to Google his name. He was our pediatrician from 1963 when my first son was born until approximately 1980 when my second son became too old to be seeing a pediatrician. He was an absolutely wonderful person. He was a wise, gentle, kind individual as well as a good doctor. When my eldest son was applying to medical schools, I contacted Dr. Mistretta to advise us on which school he should choose. I told him that Daniel had been accepted into the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, but we really can't afford it. He replied, "Nobody is accepted into the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and doesn't go", "let him take out loans". And that's what happened. My son Graduated from UPMS with honors, went on to a residency at Cedar Sinai Hospital in LA and has had a long successful career as a psychiatrist (mostly in Southern California). His eldest son has followed his footsteps and is also an established physician. Anthony Mistretta you will never be forgotten. I wish I had the ability to add a photo that I have with an infant and a toddler (taken in front of the Douglaston office) in 1966.
